Pool Running

I hurt my foot and have been doing some pool running recently. Does anyone know how it really stacks up to regular running? Is there much form involved? Should you lean forward and kick back to make lots of forward progress, or should you be vertical and use your hands to prevent forward progress? (this is wearing a life jacket without touching the bottom). It certainly seems like the legs high step much more and hence it is really tough to get the cadence up.

Other than recovery work, does it do anything for running fitness and the best way to achieve that, if it can?

It’s called aqua-running

You should NOT lean forward. Just try to “run” as you would if you were on the trails. Keep the arms moving just like if you were running.

To really do some work, keep a good HR. It’s going to be tough to have the same HR as if you were runing but try to feel that you are working something.

It’s a recovery work and I guess it doesn’t improve your running fitness but you should think this way: at least your aren’t lossing fitness (I think)
