Pool running? (1)

In all likelihood I have a calcaneal stress fracture. I will confirm soon but am treating my injury as such. My HMO Medical Group is lame and “urgent care” toldme I have tendonitis but there’s no soft-tissue pathology. Fortunately my dad is a DPM (retired) and was a team doctor and a long distance runner.

Anyhow. I want to do what I can to maintain some semblance of fitness. I figure most of my year is shot since i have lomited real traing time, but I’d hate to not fit in the jeans I bought before Oceanside last year. What I liked about running was I could fit it into our incredibly lifestyle. Even the “long runs” only took 90 minutes of my weekend.

I’ll try to swim a couple days a week. I’ll ride the trainer but god that is boring (mental toughness be damned)

What gear do I need and what do I need to know about “pool running” I have seen mentioned here.

Sorry to hear of your fracture. Make sure to get enough calcium (3 x 500 mg) and vitamin D - promotes bone healing.

You’re looking for an x ray and or bone scan to confirm it.

This is not a common bone to fx, I don’t think? Where’s rroof.

((((((((hugs)))))))))

Summer before last, I got achilles tendonitis 3 months before Kona. I did water running for over a month (along with accupuncture???) and was able to get right back to the road with no problems. (I Q’d for Boston at Kona despite all the missed time on the road) I did an 30-60 minutes after my swims 4 times a week. BORING!!!

Thanks. I don’t know how I didn’t see that in my ST search.

The boredom sounds horrible but better than not doing anything. I’m no Boston qualifier but I do want to stay healthy and maybe have a little in the tank for a sprint or Oly in fall. My schedule won;t really permit time for anything else.
