Land of slowtwitchers, We (triathlon canada’s world cup team) are looking for a pool near the Haneda pool in Tokyo, our flight arrives at 4pm into Narita on april 9th and leaves the next day from Haneda at 1:25pm (april 10h) any help would be greatly appreciated.
is there a pool and/or running trails near by?
Simon Whitfield
oh and on the way home is there a pool near Osaka airport?
Simon, the ANA/Crowne Plaza Hotel right by Narita Airport (they have a shuttle) has a reasonably sized 20 m pool that you can do a proper workout in. Also if you stay by Narita, there are lots of good country roads and trails. You could do a swim when you arrive at Narita and you could do a run the next morning and then have plenty of time (well, not really plenty, but you’ll be up at 4 am anyway) to do a run and get your ass over to Haneda.
Here are the hotel details from when I stayed their in November:

While I was at this hotel, I watched the Ironman 70.3 championship live from Clearwater…it was so cool to sit in Japan and watch the live video feed…sure beats the days in the early 90’s when I’d have to call the Kona surf resort to get the “live update” from Hawaii as the pros rolled into T2.
GregX recommended the Hilton @ $121 that isn’t bad with a 25meter 4 lane pool and treadmills plus weights for my upper body bulk session I always do 4 days before races
We’ll take a shuttle to Haneda, had to get there somehow (I did it in 1996 with ALL of my stuff moving from Australia back to Canada via 2 races in Japan, I ended up doing 3 trips up and down the elevator just to drag my stuff… ah back in the day).
Don’t forget the airport bike intensity replacement session where you throw your bike case on your back and do squats for 30 minutes standing in line to check in your bike :-).
The 25m pool at the Narita Airport Hilton is the best one around there - and there is actually a “track” in the gym - sure its only about 50 metres a lap but you’ll run well on the turns afterwards…Other option is to run on one of the golf courses which the concierge should be able to arrange for you if you let them know in advance (make sure to mention what you’re there for).
The gym/pool is open from 10am til 11pm daily and there is hardly anyone in it.
Actually don’t laugh…this is almost one of the workouts that one of my training buddies does. After his computrainer rides, he puts 100 lbs of weights in a backpack and walks up something like 6 flts of stairs and does repeats till his legs fall off…pure Rocky style training and it was good for top 5 age grouper bike split at Ironman LP a few years ago. This is the same guy that also rides with 10 lbs of cement water bottles just to make things tougher for him to put the hammer on us in training…we’re thankful cause this allows us to keep up…but only in training.
Anyway, not sure that it would be helpful for ITU studs…however, Narita airport is large enough that you could simply run a 10K in there by going from one end of the ANA Terminal to the other side where all the United and Air Canada airplanes embark/disembark
No but I know where to get a cold pint of Guinness!
I will be in Narita village at the Barge Inn at 6.30pm on the 9th. You Aussie W%#$&R. If you’r big enough you’ll show up.
I’ll tell you where to run the next morning. Staying at the Nikko Narita and leave for Manila the night of the 10th.
