Pool for how an Oly time will translate to 1/2IM?

I ran the Accenture olympic distance tri this Sunday in 2:49

Swim 29’ (in the water so not incl. the .25 mile run from exit to transition)

Bike 1:20’

Run 51’01"

Transitions relatively slow–2-4 minutes each.

I am doing the Lake Geneva 1/2IM in 2 weeks (my first ever). The bike there is mainly rollers. The run has 2-4 major hills. The Chicago course is flat. My training has been light so I am certainly not going off of some great athletic base or anything.

Anyone hazard a guess as to what time I will run/should expect for my 1/2IM?

The winner will recieve a free posting from me saying that they are a genius (sorry, I would give you money but I am broke).

If it is a cool day then 6:07
If it is a warm day then 6:18.

4:59:59…aim for the stars!!

Swim - 37:00

Bike - 3:07:00

Run - 1:59:00

T1/T2 - 5:00

Total WAG at your 1/2 IM time - 5:48
.

generally HIM time = 2xOlympic plus ~20-30 min depending on course.

6:20.

I did a flat Olympic last year in 2:29, am faster this year than last and did my first half IM in 5:25. Based upon that, I would think you would be in the 6:00 to 6:15 range, maybe slower because of the hills.

I would not worry so much about how fast your finishing time will be while racing, but instead focus more on whether you are keeping up a pace that is sustainable, through something like your perceived effort, your HR or your average speed. You should have a rough idea from your training how fast a sustainable pace is. There is, for example, no point in going 5 minutes faster on the bike split if you end up walking a couple miles on the run. You’ll find out exactly how fast you were when you’re done and then will have something to work with for next year.

The lake geneva run course is HARD.

I did the olympic distance last year, and the hills on it made me cry, I couldn’t imagine having to do 2 laps.

swim - 0:41, bike - 3:12, run 1:59, T1/T2 - 0:08

Total: 5:59:59
.

I did chicago on sunday in 2:24:02 and Steelhead 3 weeks earlier in 4:57:??. Don’t know if that helps, especially considering how brutally difficult the hills are on the run.

So how much slower pace would you say I should expect (avg over whole course) on the run compared to a flat course. 1’ more per mile?

Last year it was about 30 seconds for me.

I just completed my first 1/2 last weekend on a rolling course after only two olympic races.

Both my olympic times were 2:26 and I did the 1/2 in 5:23 in the rain. I was shooting for 5:30 as I did not know what to expect and I was very pleased with my time.

Have a great day and enjoy it! The finish, line regardless of the time, is worth all the effort!

2.1-2.33 x Olympic time = 1/2IM

= 5:55 - 6:34

My guess? 6:17

It is impossible to tell. There are too many variables. The best anyone can give you is a SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess). Just train well and enjoy the 1/2 IM.

I am right in your nieghborhood. I did Chicago in 2:47 last week. I did the Steelhead 1/2 IM earlier this summer in 5:55, so i’m going with 6:03:27

“For some sports you need a ball. For triathlon you need two.”

Perfect! Do you know what your splits were/are you relatively best on the bike, for example, which is a bigger deal in the 1/2im?
