Coke, water, and gatorade (pick 2) at every aid station.

Generally as long as you make a concerted effort to get what you need at each aid station you will be fine.

Is this a trick question?

coke? really? who drinks coke on the run? Just curious.

Coke is your best friend at an IM
.

“coke? really? who drinks coke on the run?”

in my 15 IMs basically everyone that I see

Really, thats pretty interesting. Obviously I’m still working my way past Olympic. I’m just surprised that Coke would be the best way to get Calories.

We are of course talking about “flat Coke”…
I went for a two hour run this morning with a bottle of “flat coke” with me…

Cheers,
Fred.

It is the combination of calories, sugar, and caffine pop that you need in the last ten miles or so of an IM. It also tend to calm stomach problems. It is also great if 50 miles from home and bonk!

When they said that oil was black gold they were wrong. Coke is black gold.

One 10oz fuel belt bottle with dilute infinit mix in back pocket (no FB).

Gatorade, coke, or water at aid stations once I’m done with infinit.

I totally agree with the Aid Station crowd. However the best advice about Coke is right here (above), you don’t want to use it too early or you’ll be fighting caffeine/sugar highs/lows for a while, but the last 10 miles (or less), go for it. For me (2006 IM CDA) it was 1-2 waters at every other aid station, followed by a water/gatorade at the next aid station, (and about 1 Gel every 4th aid station).

Fuel belt with sports drink (I wish QuickDisc was still around…) and gels (chocolate GU). Use the aid stations for water and other foods. Flat coke at aid station does taste amazingly good

Aid Station, alternate with gatorade and then next aid station coke/water. Only time I ever even consider drinking Coke is on the IM run.

G - carry a couple of gels and salt pills but everything else from aid stations. (coke and water primarily)

when people say there is no silver bullet when it comes to ironman racing they are wrong, coke IS the silver bullet!
