As a new user, how hard are the watch buttons suposed to be to “depress”? COmpared to my old Timex, these things need a ton of pressure, almost as if they are sticking. I’m wondering if they loosen up over time .
Any help is appreciated

The newer RS400 and 800 do have a different feel or sensitivity to them. If all of the buttons have the same “FEEL” then it is normal, if one if is more difficult than you could send it in. I suggest you go to SETTINGS, then GENERAL, and put KEYLOCK on. Since the red button is above the surface of the watch, you could activate the watch when putting your hand in your pocket. Activate keylock. When you post a Polar question, I do miss a few, so feel free to post and even PM me.
I find the lap button on my rs200 ‘sticks’ compared to my Timex. It needs a very precise ‘push’ in order to get it to register a lap. I upgraded about two months ago and am still acclimating to the sensitivity of the button. The side buttons aren’t nearly as finicky as the lap button, they almost register too easily. On the flip side, I was scratching my back during a run once and I must have had the watch positioned perfectly and it fired off two lap button pushes almost simultaneously. Oh well, win some lose some. I’d say I prefer it to be a little tougher to register vs accidental pushes recording the wrong data.
edit: by the way, I love your name! Noticed it a while ago but haven’t replied to you directly so haven’t had a chance to mention it.
Thanks for the response and the compliment. I’ll pass it along to my parents. It seems you have the same “red button” issue I have. namely, i feel like I need to drop an anvil on it - and at precisely the proper angle - to get it to register.
Precisley the right angle is correct. Its my first Polar so I guess its just a quirk. I love the features though, much better than my previous Timex’s.
I figured it was just a screen nname. I guess its kind of like Michael Bolton in Office Space, huh?
I was being facetious - it’s not my real name, nor do I come from a javelin throwing background
.
Please allow me to hijack this for a second…![]()
I bought the 800 last year and within a few weeks, the red lap button became virtuallly useless. With my style of training, I record laps religiously and it would sometimes take me 15 seconds to get the button to work. I actually ended up just buying a Timex Ironman watch to swim in because of this. Seeing how this is relatively new, is there a way to get it fixed?
thanks,
david K
Sure, it RS800 is still under warranty. Fill out the form on Polar’s website and send it back.
