Any idea on how the monitor calculates calories?? I feel it’s way too high. A 2.5 hr ride this a.m. showed 1600 cal expended.
I have wondered the same thing. I’d imagine it takes into consideration the information you put in when you start it up (i.e. age, weight and all that stuff). I think if you also do the “self test” it uses that too. I think it’s pretty accurate though. I did the self test thing and it said my VO2 max was around 68. Obviously this will be a little off because it really only uses the variation of your resting heart rate and the personal information you tell it. But a few weeks ago I had it checked by a professional and my VO2 max was 65.7. So it was fairly close. Although I’m not sure if that says much for the calorie calculations. I usually burn about 1000 an hour on the bike and a little under that for running. It seems high, but it goes right along with how I feel about an hour after working out if I don’t eat something.
