I got a new front wheel and for some reason it seems to be registering double - as in the watch says I’m going twice as fast/far as I actually am. I’m wondering if it’s possible to have the pickup TOO close, so it registers twice? Any ideas?
I had that happen - double and tripple checked the wheel diameter setting and the problem was still there. And no it was not because of the metrics setting. Mysteriously enough the problem just went away, so I never bothered to call Polar. For now consider yourself luck for how fast you are riding
Put the sensor more than half way up the fork, I had the same problem and my sensor was down by the skewer so I moved it up and no more problems.
The transmitter has a little green light on it. Slowly rotate the wheel while watching the light. If it flashes without the magnet passing by, well, that’s just weird. It should only flash once as the magnet passes. If you get a double-flash, it’s probably because the alignment of the magnet to the sensor is off. Rather than picking up one pole of the magnet, it’s detecting both poles.
You just have to play around with the mounting a bit. Make sure the mount is at least halfway down the leg and not tucked under your brake caliper. Keep your watch on the same side of the mount. the sensor usually works a good 1/4 away so I doubt it’ll pick up both poles but you never know.
Now can you get my Cadence to work for my bike please?
I have the S625x and am thinking about getting the bike speed sensor. Do I need to also buy the mount for my watch, or can I wear it on my wrist? I’m probably going to rely on my cateye computer for data during the ride, but would like to be able to play with the data from the Polar afterward.
Thanks!
you can wear it on your wrist, again it’s better to have the watch on the same side as the speed sensor. You can also make a cool little mount using the polar strap. take the non-buckle end and slip through the little rubber strap retainer on teh buckle end, you’re doing this on the inside of the strap so the two straps are against each other with the ends flush and pointing away from the monitor. Move the rubber strap retainer thingy as close to the body of the HR monitor as you can and you can now use the straps to mount the monitor to a base bar. The monitor is suspended an inch or so above the bar though so it bobs around a bit.
Thanks all. I’ll have another look at it when I get back home later this week. I didn’t move the sensor on the fork, and the magnet is the same type as the one that’s on my regular wheel - so I hope it’s just a matter of fiddling with it a little (and that the fiddling sticks!).
As for the cadence issue, sometimes mine stops working mid-ride for no apparent reason. Or, it won’t start up right away when I hop on the bike. Usually it starts by itself, or will “reset” itself if I coast for a few seconds. But sometimes I have to stop the computer and re-start it before the cadence starts up again. It’s weird. I’ve also hit 260 riding under power lines…
