Brother in law wants a HRM/cyclometer that is versatile for on and off bike activities and this seems to fit the bill.
Wanted to see what people thought who have any experience it.
Does it transfer data to computer with USB infrared?
Thanks for any help.
I have one and am not crazy about it. Cycling computer works fine, but it doesn’t do laps for running and I have yet to get it to download data to the computer. It uses sound (chirps) to download the data and despite 1 hour of fiddling a few nights ago, i have yet to get it to work.
The imo THE key with all Polar products is the ability to download to their PPT5 software. Even if you don’t use it now, eventually you will want to.
You probably need to look at more of a tri watch than a cycling computer if you need it for running. I think the only options right now for polar are the s625x, s720i, and the new rs800 that can do both. The s625x and s725 are older, the rs800cx is great, but up there in price and can’t be used in the water. Seems to be a big gap between the s625x and the rs800cx, like there should be some newer lower priced options that can use the older straps and sensors, but have the newer watch features.
Be interesting what polar has coming out…
Is your brother in law racing or casually cycling and then hitting a health club? If this is case, and he needs something simple, this is a perfect unit. If he races and wants to download, he has to move up.
this unit works very well for cycling. the interface to download to the computer is a microphone since the unit sends off ‘notes’ such as fax machine does. I use the Polar SD800 for running.
