Polar 720i Question (1)

Hey everyone.

I have a Polar 720i with the ir interface and can’t download anything on a computer using XP.

Is there a trick to this that I am missing?

Thanks!

Have you downloaded the lastest software updates from www.polar.fi?

Yes I have.

Have you installed the driver?

Are you within a few inches when doing the IR transfer?

Do you see the orange light flash on the IR when transferring data?

Are you using the USB IR interface? Did you have it disconnected when you installed the software and software updates?

What is happening when you try to transfer? Do you get any progress? Does the S720i say 'COM x%"?

I get the orange light off the interface, and I am attempting to download the same way I did with my ancient laptop.

I had the usb unplugged while doing the update. Maybe I’ll just start over with the install???

How far does the download get? What percentage? How old is the monitor? I had trouble downloading when my battery was getting weak.

I re-read the polar install notes.

I can’t find anything new for the USB driver info. I do a search under “explore” and there is no polarusb.exe. The only drivers I have are with the original install for 98 and win2k.

The USB drivers are part of the update and run towards the end of the update.

What message do you get when you try to download?

On the computer it says “connecting to HR monitor”

The watch says 35%-78%-100% all very quickly.

The “connecting” message stays on the whole time.

The watch doesnt’ begin the percentage numbers until the ir receiver is close enough and the orange light is going.

Hey!

I have one S720i and had I bought the USB interface too. I had all kinds of problems with it, first the drives, next the software and after 2 or 3 afternoons over this I just gave up. Now I have the COM Interface and it works fine. I didn’t had to install anything, it started to work since the first minute.

Never could get the USB interface to work on my pc (win xp) even after downloading the latest version of Polar Precision Soft!

Get a COM Interface :stuck_out_tongue:

Do these work with a Mac? Otherwise, I’d have to put all of that on my office. I’m not keen on that.

If Polar’s COM Interface works on mac?

I’m 99% sure of it. I think my coach has a mac and he uses the COM interface.

Thanks,
I guess I should check their website to be sure.

last time I talked to Polar about this (6 months or so) word was no mac compatibility as of then.

No.

There are ways around it though. In order for each of the solutions below to work, you will need the following:

  1. Polar watch which can transmit via IR
  2. Polar SERIAL-IrDA transmitter (NOT the USB-IrDA one)
  3. KeySpan USB-Serial adaptor, model USA-19HS

Way 1:
http://www.otag.co.uk/ - Training Log
Will allow you to download HRM files from watch, load & graph them

Way 2:
Use Virtual PC running Win2000/XP
You can now use the proper Polar software

You can’t use Timex stuff AT ALL with a Mac. There are no workarounds either as far as I know.

I don’t have the interface but I have an IR port on my Dell Latitude Laptop which is less than 1 year old.

I was never able to get the IR link to work.

Anybody have any clues on this?

A friend mentioned that whenever he’s had Dell Laptop the IR ports were never enabled when they were received. Does this make sense, anyone know what I need to do to “enable” the IR port (if this is the problem)?

Thanks

Camel

The IR ports were only enabled with Win95 if you can believe that!

Thanks.
