Polar 710 as a bike computer

Does anyone out there who uses a polar HRM for a bike computer have problems with it not giving a constant read out of speed/dist. I will look down every once in a while and notice it says zero while I’m moving, it is positioned on my front wheel and whithin the distance required by polar. I have just changed the battery to see if it helps but I checked the battery and it doesnt appear to be low so any other ideas would be appreciated.

I’ve been using a 710 as my main bike computer for almost two years.

I’ve gotten erratic readings esecially need high tension wires or radar sites taht are putting out alot of RF interference.

I resently jacked up the output of the sensor and attached it to my read wheel. The speed sensor is normally set to low pwr where as cad sensor is set to med. you can change the jumper to jack up to output signal and that should fix everything. Somebody riding next to you with a polar might also pick up your speed readings… but that’s their problem and if you racign they shouldn’t be that close anyway…

this where you can get more info on jumper settings

Yep, and that’s why I went to the Timex BodyLink System (or, you could just use the Timex S+D portion of the BodyLink System). I only use my wireless Polar for Cadence now (can’t wait till Timex adds that to their BodyLink System).

I’m not sure the cause of your problem… but sounds more like the wireless device when bad (maybe someone else has a better idea). When I had a problem simular to yours it was always that my magnet wasn’t close enough or off center.

I have a polar xtrainer plus and have never had any problem with the readings from the sensors, ocassionally the HR will go crazy for a few seconds when I go under high tension wires ( I live in an area with a lot of radio towers) but thats about the only problem I’ve had. You may just have to play around with where you have it set up on the bike.

I have a Polar 720i, with cadence and power, so the speed sensor is attached to the rear wheel, and it is not wireless. This said, I have no problems with it, except when in close proximity to power lines.

The accuracy of the power meter is another story.
