S’up.
Please can somebody tell me about this clincher wheel, in particular it’s…
- Awesomeness
- Weight (yeah, I know…)
- Probability of making me sound like the helicopter from Blue Thunder
This is available for me to buy. I have a 2012 “Classic” P3 and have just bought a used Hed Jet 9 for the front. I have been riding 52mm Mavic Cosmics with a cover on the back. Why change the rear? The dish of the cover makes the largest cog inaccessible, and I do sometimes wish I had that gear for the hills I live in and the races I do. But I am aware aero trumps all. Tempted therefore by a flat disc, and that way I can sell my Mavics as a set.
Thanks for any info. And how awesome would that look with a Jet 9 up front on a lovely white P3. Debadged for the stealth. Oh hang on …
and 4) Does the sticker come off?!
Cheers,
Rich.

It’s pretty old. It’s a little heavy. And as I recall, it even makes the womp womp noise rolling the bike through transition.
I’d be concerned getting a 10 or 11-speed cassette on there. Does it have a compatible freehub?
I have one of its brothers/sisters… Yes, it makes THE disc sound; yes, it’s fairly (but not absurdly) heavy; and yes, it has the standard Shimano 8/9/10 freehub (which I don’t believe will take the new 11-spd cassettes). There are also thread-on freewheel versions from that vintage, but those are obvious at a glance.
I got mine used in 2008, but I’d estimate the original model year at roughly 2000ish (my freehub has a partially threaded body for the old Uniglide cassettes where the last cog screwed on ~ which was the forerunner to the Hyperglide cassettes with a separate lockring ~ but will accept either version; that model transition came in the late '90s, around the 8-spd era.
And the previous owner also removed the sticker off mine, although its residue ‘shadow’ is still apparent up close in the right lighting.
Edit - added pic (w/ my old Jet9 too before I sold it):
