Please help! Zipp404/Hed3 vs Carbon Cosmics

I have my first Half IM this weekend, and I have just found out that (due to circumstances beyond my control) I wont have my normal Zipp 404 front and Hed3 rear combo. Fcuk!!!

I do, however, have the option of using a pair of carbon Cosmic’s.

The course is dead flat, with no climbs at all. It is a three loop rectangular course with one section of road that is really rough and potentially into a very strong headwind, which clearly means that I will get cross and tail winds on the other sides…

Can someone please put my mind at ease that I wont be slower using the Mavic’s. I don’t know why, but I have the feeling that the Zipp/Hed3 will be faster, and I will now be slower…

You won’t be slower.

There. Feel better?

(Oh yeah. I’ve got Craig Willett’s aero wheel wind tunnel data, so there’s some basis to my claim).

cosmic carbons slower than zipp/head combo?

by what? 1.16793 sec per 100km…

come on OZ, ya splitting hairs here, the cosmic carbonnes are plenty good enough. you will lose more time by dropping your sunnies in transition that you’ll gain/lose between those two wheelset options.

I race on a 1996 set of alloy cosmics ( 16 spoke 40mm rim ) & other than weight I can still find no reason to update to carbon rimmed aero wheels. the early cosmic & shamal wheels were real standard setters.

btw, good luck in Shepparton.

Promise? I know it sounds silly, but I guess I am nervous enough about the race itself and last minute changes to race gear are not my speciality…

Hey!! That is funny that you picked the race - you gotta be an aussie? You racing? You raced it before?

Simon Lessing uses 'em. And they’ve won countless grand tour victories. Fear not. They’re fast. The hubs are top shelf too.
