Please help an Irish runner go to the Olympics

On Saturday night Irish runner Maria McCambridge ran a huge PR of 15:05 in the 5000m in Heusden to qualify for the Olympic games…only the Olympic Council of Ireland is refusing to allow her on to the team.

A bunch of bureaucrats who know nothing about our sport set ridiculously early deadlines for the qualifying standards not knowing that all the fast European meets are in July and August. Ireland’s best runners who have worked their whole lives for an Olympic dream are being left at home by paper shufflers behind desks.

The USA’s best runners are still in Europe seeking qualifying standards because the USOC understands how the process works.

Please e-mail Pat Hickey, President of the Irish Olympic Council at;

admin@olympic-council.ie

And politely ask that Maria McCambridge and any other Irish runner who makes the required standard be allowed to follow their dream.

Thanks

To make things easy for you…cut and paste. :slight_smile:

Dear President Hickey,

I am writing to ask you to please rethink your decision regarding Maria McCambridge and allow her to travel to Athens and compete in the Olympic Games for Ireland.

For any athlete competing in an Olympics is the highest of honours and qualifying is the reward of many thousands of hours of hard work and dedication.

Maria McCambridge should not be denied this honour or her reward.

Sincerely,

Your Name
