I hope they cancel this and next five seasons. Such a bunch of babies.
This strike is great. I live near Sacramento. All they talk about is the Queens, er Kings. Without them they are forced to talk about football. I hope the NBA never comes back.
The players are idiots. But what do you expect from mostly uneducated college dropouts.
I hope the NBA never comes back.
On many levels, I agree with that sentiment…however, there is a segment of the population that does make a living or at least some extra income on the sport, i.e., arena workers—from parking attendants to ticket takers, concessionaires, etc… So for their sake I would hope that somehow, some way they get this figured out.
As a fan, I could do with 50-game seasons from here on out…would suit me just fine, making each game a bit more meaningful. But that’s just me…
Disband the union and then allow owners to hire players directly at severely reduced salaries. The guys who earn tens of millions can move to Europe and suck an egg while hard working players who deserve a shot finally get rewarded with starting roles. Games would be a lot better.
Professional sports players who whine about money make me sick.

Nah let’s go with 162 games like in baseball ![]()

Many don’t even go to college. Unlike football, the NBA has no college requirement. LaBron James only finished high school. Either way I think this is great. NBA fans, or sports fans in general need to be reminded that the stars who make millions off of them don’t give two shits about them. Or the little people (aka unskilled labor) who depend on that part time income. That is after all how the local politicians con all the saps into supporting stadium funding.
“many” is an exaggeration. “A few,” would be accurate. The number who skip college is increasing, but it’s still not large.
Less than 20% have college degrees and more than 60% are broke 5 years after retiring. Meanwhile, the average annual salary in the N.B.A. is more than $5.85 million.
Not dealing with the savviest people here.
Wiping out a season is going to hurt them more than the owners.
Why do we always see a big crowd of players (at least I’m assuming it’s players) on stage behind whoever is making the announcement? Are they supposed to look intimidating or something?

I love this. Every time the players want more people get pissed. They are the talent. Without them there is no sport. My are the owners never given a hard time for their moves to get more money?

Why do you have a problem with the amount of money that players make? The players make the league. If the owners reduced the amount of money the players get in salary, they just pocket the extra money. So you would rather have multi-billionaires making a few extra hundred million and sitting on it. At least most of the players spend it, putting it back into the economy.
**This strike is great. **
I heard the players union is insisting this is not a strike but a lock out.
To fans who can’t watch, that is a big difference.

I have no problem with their salaries, but this isn’t about salaries is it. It’s about profit sharing to players who put up ZERO dollars or have any financial risk on the business end. Yes the ‘talent’ makes the league, but the owners capital also makes the league. Players should agree to a salary and be done with it. When they start putting up capital for risk, then they can talk about profit sharing. Players are being greedy here.

The players are free to take their vast skills to another employer if they wish since they have the talent. How much does a person playing b-ball make down at the local playground these days? What woyuld happen if you went to your employer and demanded more of the profits go into your pocket? Why should athletes be any different? You did notice what the average pay is for playing a game and they are still whining until they get everything they want.
The owners take the risk so they should be the ones on the higher ground. Period. Someday when you are a successful business owner you will agree and we can sit and laugh about this conversation on your yacht, the SS Tibbs

Conversely if their are no owners, there is nobody to create teams. Both are at fault, but it’s hard to feel for someone who plays a game and makes millions and complains about tens of thousands of dollars, talks about the hardships of not getting a check because of a lockout in their fifth year in the league, etc.

In an ideal scenario (for us, not the money sucking players or owners) it would also force them to lower ticket prices dramatically. Therefore a family of four could actually afford to go to an NBA game once in a while without it costing them hundreds of dollars.

Are you seriously debating the use of the wordy many vs a few with me? Both of those are ambigous terms with no definite numbers. Are you drunk and have too much time. Go ponder the Sandusky interview.
If this is truly the case, the players should form their own league down at Rucker Park in NYC, or the courts down at Venice Beach in CA. A player owned and player-ran league. Cut out the owners and they’d be BILLIONAIRES!!!
Like it or not, the owners put up the financial capital for each team and expect a return on that investment. A good portion of their revenue is fixed (TV contracts locked in) and another good portion is inelastic in nature (i.e. there’s a breaking point for cost of tickets for fans, which I think happened a while ago), so to make a profit they have to cut costs, the major part of which is players salary. The players are slitting their own throats by their actions. Look at what happened to the NHL and MLB after their strikes. Fans stayed away for years. Less fans equals less ticket revenue. Less fans watching on TV equals less TV revenue at the next contract negotiation. Then where are their huge salaries going to come from?
Bottom line, the players refuse to see that the NBA was operating on an unsustainable business model.
All that being said, I’m loving life right now. Sportcenter showing tons of football & hockey highlights, with a little college basketball thrown in.
