Hola! My nephew is getting married down in Playa del Carmen (just south of Cancun) in 2 weeks.
Any chance that I could rent a bike while there?
Any S-S-S-Shark problems in the water down there?
While we’re at it, anyone know of running trails?
Trivia question for bonus points. You should all know this…
What state is Playa del Carmen in?
Didn’t train when I was there last. No trouble getting a beater bike rental, though. No issues with sharks that I know of, and it’s lovely for running.
Last time I was there the taxi drivers scared me everytime. I would not even rent a car there. Stay with swim and run while you are there unless you can find a place to cycle where there are no cars.
No bike rentals, maybe in Cancun, but mostly beach cruisers.
Out of all the times I have been there, no sharks seen, both above and below the water.
You can run on the beach, depending on where staying. If at Hotel Intercontential area, go south ( north are some topless beaches), some trails along the resorts towards Tulum. Stay close to the beach or it gets pretty muggy quick and watch your step. There are ruins everywhere.
Have a great time, We love the attitude of Playa , but stay away from Senior Frogs, unless you are ready to get your freak on.
I was there a few years ago. Stayed at the Riu Palace. I would not ride a bike on those roads with that traffic. I rode a little stationary bike but mostly ran (early AM on the golf course cart path) followed by a swim in the ocean, which was the best swim conditions I have ever enjoyed. Clear, smooth, warm water and I had it to myself at that time of day. A great way to start the day. Only saw one barracuda all week, and found numerous sunglasses, a few room keys, and one bottle of rum on the sandy bottom. The only bike rental I did was to tour the Coba ruins. We loved the area.
I was there for my honeymoon last June. I will just agree with everyone else is saying, stick to running and open water swims.
You wouldn’t want to ride a bike due to poor roads, bad drivers, and bad parts of town. If you really need to ride a suggest just sucking it up and getting on a stationary bike.
My family has a condo there as well as a hotel. Let me know if you need any assistance while down there.
The gym called the “GYM” has spinning classes.Stay off the roads.
Argentina grill for steak,El cuervo del che for mexican, swim in the ocean as much as you like, there is a track but I run down fifth street before the crowds.
Great place.
what kind of doc are you?
Ophtho in Charleston S.C.
Thanks everyone! Sounds like suicide bike riding is out.
Also sounds like some nice running and fantastic swimming.
I’ll check el Gym. I might take you up on the assist. Is taxi the best way to get to Playa del Carmen from the airport??
(I’m always a little skeptical of ‘Mexican Food’ outside of Chihuahua. It’s usually a lot sweet stuff and not enough chile and jalapeno, but I’ll check out El Cuervo de Che)
