I ruptured my plantar plate, about six weeks ago under my small toe. I know not common. Have not been doing much of anything since. Surgery seems like the oly option, but the outcomes are not guaranteed. I am wondering if anyone else has had one under the small toe and is it an easier surgery/recover, i am thinking or hoping they could go in through the side of the foot instead of the top. Any recommendations for doctors? I dont think i want my podiatrist to do this. I want to get back to running asap, but i also do not want to end up worse. Has anyone had a full rupture and did it heal on its own?? How long were you off of running?
FWIW My Mil had the rupture and her podiatrist did the sx. It was a complete success. She was crabby during the recovery but now is perfect. Hers would not heal on her own.

Was hers also at the 5th metatarsal? How long did she wait for it to heal? I am going crazy now! Still in walking boot.
she waited about 8 months. Never headed. Hers was 4th. Gnarly looking and painful for the first few days. She is back to full speed 6 months later.
