well, the last time I had it , 10 years ago or so I was just a runner. So I laid off for a while, ice, and the trouble went away. I thought I was getting it again a couple of weeks ago, sore heel, ya da ya da. Nom I am sure. So I will lay off running, buy what do you folks think about riding? does riding aggravate PF???
I suggest you get the book “Pain Free” by Pete Egoscue. Works wonders - especially if you’re just getting the PF. Used this for myself, and several clients and friends. Plus you get to keep on running. No icing involved either.
DebiB has convinced me to order Pain Free and I don’t even have PF (no, I am not taunting the Gods). I also suggest you search on PF and find my post on how to tape your foot. If you really have it, it is going to probably be with you for a bit so you might as well be able to run. I ran 2 marathons taped waiting for it to go away.
I’ve found that an OTC orthotic all day and taping my foot (except when I run, along with a PF stretch, really help.
The PF stretch–sit down with the ankle of the affected foot on your opposite knee. Place the opposite hand on the arch (so you can feel the PF) then stretch the toes and foot of the affected foot back with the ipsilateral hand. Do this at least twice daily–in the morning and evening. Do several stretches at each session.
The biggest thing that helped me was stretching it before I even got out of bed. The physical therapist told me that if I didn’t do that, then it would be even more inflamed all day.
I am just getting over a 1 year stint of PF. I ran 8 miles on Sunday with no problem…finally. It has taken quite a while. It is still there just a little bit. After a run like Sunday, the pain the next day is maybe a .5-1 on a scale of 1-10. Yes, I did feel pain after biking…at first. It was bad enough that a 1-2 mile easy spin would leave me in pain. I had to lay off of running and biking for 4 weeks. At the 3 week point, I started on the elliptical machine. THen it was a SLOW build. Night splints helped. So did ibuprophen (like magic). Treat it aggressively or it will stick around for a long time. Oh…taping really helped. It allowed me to bike with no pain. DO a google search and you will find some good pictures of PF taping. Good luck…keep the faith.
