Planning 2014 races

Hey ST!
I signed up for IMMT on August 2014 and wanted to plan a few races beforehand. I have only done 1 half this past year.

Planning for 2 halfs before the IM however there isnt much near me <3 hour drive, NYC.

There are 3 around me in the May-July period but 2 of which i cannot/advised not to do.
1 of them is 6 days after my first marathon. The other is a day after the other half.

Is 6 days too little rest time? Running is my weakest sport so i am currently working on that now.

6 days after a marathon? A lot of people feel a marathon takes more out of you then an IM does. 6 days if definitely not enough time to adequately recover from running that distance.

The marathon will require a lot of recovery time that will take away from you training. Drop the marathon and do the Tris.

Marathoning is brutal, especially if your weakest sport is running. It takes just as much time to recover from as an ironman if you race it right. Treat it as a high priority race with big rest in the ~2 weeks after or drop it off the calendar, but racing a HIM 6 days later is just going to be garbage.

Avoid doing what I did, scheduled two races in one weekend.

Littlefoot Sprint (Sept 6, last race of the Front Range Series) and Harvest Moon half-iron (Sept 7)

I think I’ll take the day off on Sept 8th.
