Planet X Uncle John for cross?

I think I want to give cross a go this fall and winter. I see Planet X has some good deals on the Uncle John bike. Although it looks like a bit of an all aroud rig, how would it be for a newbie cross racer just looking to have fun. I have some extra Ultegra parts I can put on and some beefy 32 spoke wheels (Ultegra hubs and Mavic rims) so was just going to get a frameset and go from there. I also would likley use this for trips to the hardware store, commuting to work, etc so really don’t want anything high end.

Any feedback on this bike or recommendations for similarly priced cross bike?

I’ve got one that I purchased off ebay and built up with older Campy stuff on it. I have crossed on it, commutted with it and it is my go to pathway bike as well. I have been very impressed by its versatility and toughness. Go for it, its a fun bike.

I bought one to race CX on. While it is by far the cheapest frameset I own I really like that bike. Works great.
