Places to train? Market St in San Fran

I’m travelling to San Francisco this week for business. I will be staying at the Hilton on O’Farrell St which is not far from Market St. Any good places to swim/run nearby? I won’t have my bike, nor a car, but am open to taking some public transpo for a scenic workout.

Thanks!

Well I just got back from a trip to NorCal, so consider this the scouting report.

For pools, see this map:

Serrano was my hotel, and it’s actually right across the street from the Hilton. There may be other pools, but these are the ones I got from the pool locator website. I wish I could comment on which one to go to – but I forgot all my swimming gear so I never swam!

As for running, I did this long run route twice while I was there…with a variation the second time:

Absolutely phenomenal views of the city (when there’s no fog) and plenty of hills. . It even takes you by Baker Beach if you want to try the sand ladder. The endpoint is anywhere on Geary Blvd, where you’ll hop the 38 route bus ($1.50) to take you straight back to the Union Sq area (takes about 30m if you don’t catch the “express” bus). There was a small grocery store around Geary/25th or so if you’re worried about post long run refueling. For other runs, I would usually head down Market to Embarcadero, go left, and then follow it around to the aquatic park area or further to Marina Green or to the GG–and then double back. One day I went Market to Embarcadero to Taylor St (which cuts straight south and puts you right back at the Hilton)…you might try that if you want a really BIG, STEEP hill workout

Let me know if you have any other q’s I’d be glad to help.
