I am in Dallas (Richardson area) for the summer working an internship. As I just got to the city I don’t know much about the cycling here. I have been able to find longer routes through Strava and Garmin Connect. However, I have no clue where I could do intervals such as VO2 max and threshold work.
Over the bridge across Lavon Lake. From country club all the way to 380 (entering Princeton). It’s about a 20 min stretch of road that is isolated and nicely paved. There is also the long course bike route via RBM that isn’t bad either. Those are what I usually use. From Richardson its about a 30 min ride to Country Clud drive in St. Paul where the route I use for itervals start.
look up a group called fit2train on fb they are a great goup of people and will happily let you join them. the best place to train is going to be in and around white rock lake.
I haven’t raced them in a while, but there is a Tuesday night Crit series in Richardson. You may be able to use that course http://www.dallascrit.com/ (looking at their flyer, it’s moved north to Craig Ranch).
You can also come down to White Rock lake as jrfuller12 mentioned. As he mentioned, fit2train does intervals there (on Wednesday nights at 6). Several other tri clubs and roadie groups do workouts there, as well. My work schedule limits me to only training in the mornings, and the lake is pretty traffic free then. The evening workouts always got interrupted by traffic at the lake. I believe the Cottonwood Trail is open all the way through Richardson now, and it can get you to White Rock Lake via the White Rock Creek Trail.
DFW Tri Club is the biggest tri club in the area, and they have a long ride up at Lake Grapevine after their weekly OWS on Saturdays. I’ve heard that route is low on traffic. RBM has a store in Richardson with group rides and a store by white rock with group rides.
