Pizza, sunglasses, and i'm a jerk

before i get to the i’m a jerk part i just wanted to note:

  1. had pizza last night… 5 pieces of plain. felt excellent during my 3 hour ride on the trainer and 5 mile run off the bike.

  2. first time i wore sunglasses during a run. i will definitely do this more often. felt relaxed - even in the 90 degree heat.

now… i’m a jerk for what i did today. i feel like i am always as careful as i can be… but, today… i was wreckless. during the 5 mile run i came to an intersection. instead of slowing down and waiting i sized up the distance to the oncoming cars and went for it. i misjudged it. they were going faster than i thought they were and they closed the gap faster than expected. nothing happened except for a bunch of horns being blown and some guy yelling at me. but, i really did feel like an ass. and, i was. so, i’m sorry. i apologize. i swear i’ll be more careful next time.

just needed to get that off my chest.

Hey, any one you can walk away from is good… Glad you made it out safely.

I had pizza yesterday too and raced today. I also had a Greek salad and some (excellent) broiled whitefish. Very good.

First time you ever ran with sunglasses? Interesting. -Not sure how you’ve managed up 'til now. I need my prescription Oakley’s to see where I’m going (see the thread on me being old and slow).

i ran in high school… xc and track… never wore sunglasses then. never saw any need for them now. read about wearing them in magazines and books but never really gave it any thought. just figured - never needed them before - don’t need them now.

i’m rethinking that… i just felt so relaxed! im a changed man.

you raced today? how did you do? (or is that in another thread?) i’m racing a sprint next week. then the 13th im doing eagleman.

I think I was 6th in the 40-44 age category and about 20th overall from about 150 people, maybe a few more- not sure.

It was the Bikesport Grosse Ile Island Duathlon- 3.1 mile run/ 13.3 mile bike/ 3.1 mile run. Nice race, beautiful bike course.

Good luck a your sprint race and at Eagleman- which is a huge race. My next race is the American Express Explorer Seahorse Triathlon on June 6th.

congrats on your good finish tom. i assume you’re one of the best cyclists there? thanks for the luck. it’ll be my second half iron. prep for imf.

I run in my sunglasses all the time, it definetly feels more comfortable on a lot of days.

There are a lot of much better cyclists there than myself- Eric Fernando, Sean Tyrrell, Todd Briggs, Joe Degan, Pat Carroll to name just a few. Every one of those guys out split me.
