Thinking about running a disc wheel this weekend at Lou and not carrying a spare tire. Has anyone had any experience using pit stop and a disc? Never used the ‘crack pipe’ and pit stop before. Any issues? On my 404 tubular’s I’ve had great experience using it but never tried it with a disc.
Thoughts?
Thanks for any info for those that have used it on their disc wheels.
ditto
also…any problems using it on a carbon rim?
you’ll never get pitstop into a disc…
you could put the tire on a box rim and pre-load it with pitstop then install on a disc, but on the road it isn’t going to work.

Thanks Greg. I was thinking the same thing…kind of an ‘all in or nothing’ kind of approach with a disc. Throwing on a new vittoria evo tire and a bit of preload of pit stop before mounting on the disc may give bit more of peace of mind.
I’m running with Pit Stop and no tire as well. I don’t see a problem with pushing the valve towards the side, holding the pit stop in there and going to town. No crack pipe needed. It won’t be pretty, but it should work.
I’m running a PT Sub9 if that helps. I am going to check it when I get home though.

Check this out, Tom A. suggested it for Disk wheels rather than PitStop
Will it work with Presta valve?

Thanks for the reply and good thought…I’ll have to check to see if the valve can be pushed just enough to the side to connect the PS.
have you ever used pitstop?
the seal is when the end of the white cap bottoms on the rim…
I don’t think what you are suggesting will work.

Greg,
Yes, I’ve used it a couple times on my 404’s with no problems. You’re correct in that what was suggested regarding the valve on the tubular being pushed over will not work. I think the best best would be the Hutch tire seal and the improved ‘crack pipe’ with threaded end will be my best bet. Thanks for the input.
ditto - and anyone used it on a Hed 3C?

In 2007 at Eagleman I got to transition to set up and my tubular on my disc had a slow leak. I used this stuff (not sure if it was Hutchinson, but it had a tube like the Hutch stuff), inflated the tire and went to the start. Not only did it work, but it held air from then on as if new. All you need to do is push the valve to the side a bit, attach the hose and inflate. When I say push to teh side, I mean only about 1/2 an inch to get the hose attached, nothing crazy aggressive or risky to the tire. Works like a charm. No crack pipe needed and I doubt you would get a good seal from cannister thru crack pipe to valve anyway. Had a can of the Hutch stuff with me at IMLP this year. You will never get the Vittoria on the valve of your disc and it needs to be tight to get all the sealant and Co2 in. Use this instead and you’re good to go.
I finally got fed up with not knowing for myself and just tried it 3 minutes ago. Pit Stop will work fine with a HED 3C, or at least with the one I tried it on. It fit in the cutout and inflated the tired just fine. It also seemed to fit in the cutout for a Renn disc which has the hole for the valve stem angled outwards a bit. It will not work with a HED Jet disc.
I posted in another thread, but basically you want:
And:
You can screw the threaded part of the hose onto the adapter.
I’ve used a regular crack pipe and pitstop and it works fine…
Jordan: Have you ever seen or heard of this stuff?

I have now! Thanks. I will see if I can order some up…
I picked up a couple cans today. The fitting definitely works with my wheels - I’m just not sure how well the “stuff” works as compared to the other products out there.

Phil,
Too funny, I just did the same thing myself about ten minutes ago. I took the rubber piece off the Pit Stop and put the ‘crack pipe’ in it so it fit very very snug. I then put the rubber piece back on the pit stop container top and filled the disc tire. No issues either!! Hope this helps those that were stressing like us. Cheers!
I had my front tubular changed and the guys who did it didn’t put a very long valve extender on it (I have 808s). I haven’t measured it, but i’m a little worried that the valve might not be long enough to trigger the seal on the pit stop cannister. Only way to check it out is to use up a can and see what happens. If it DOES work, what’s the effect of having pitstop in your tire thereafter? Can you continue to pump it up as normal with the pit stop stuff in there?
