Pinarello Montello

All,

I am considering this bike as an alternative to a P3C. Does anyone have any experience with this bike or Pinarello? Frame quality? Durability? Thanks!

Depends on why you’re interested in an alternative. If it’s just because you’d like something a little different then that’s probably a good choice. If it has anything to do with quality or technical precision then I’d say any other bike is a bad choice.

Isn’t this bike close to $9-10,000 when all is said and done? That is surely a much more expensive alternative to the P3C. If the bike is twice as good as the P3C, then buy it, but for that kind of money you can buy a P3C, a set of race wheels, and at least a year’s worth of coaching.

The geometries are quite different…and yeah the frame is $2K more than P3C.

One of these days I’ll get around to posting a picture of mine…it is an amazing ride…and looks pretty cool too…

Will the manufacturers be building you a custom frame?

If not, then IMO, you should be considering only those “off the shelf” frames/bikes that match up to your unique physiology. What does your fit person suggest? The Cervelo and Pinarello have different geometries in their stock frames, - one will most certainly be the wrong bike for you…

You know, I’ve been thinking about this, not buying a Pinarello per se, but what if I had more money than I needed and wanted a Pinarello?

My girlfriend lusts after it, which is a little strange, but noteworthy.

But I don’t think it’s steep enough. Luckily I have a lot of money (only in my thoughts), and I determine the size that would fit me if the seat angle were 78 degrees, which it isn’t. Then I would call Calfee Design and ask them what, if anything, they can do to move the saddle clamp forward on the Pinarello aero seatpost–cost being no object…

If nothing could be done, or I was bored, I might check out Parlee’s TT bike, which my girlfriend hasn’t see yet, but I’m sure when she does…
