Pimp my diet...bachelor life

Dude…been away from home and living in a suite for almost four months now and am pretty tired of my food choices/rut that I am in.

I know my diet sucks down here and would probably make a huge difference if I ate better.

Help me. Give me some ideas, shopping lists, something. Here are some limits/details:

-I don’t need to lose any weight…in fact I need lots of calories.

-Hotel Room = Microwave, One Plate, One Bowl, One Cup, One Set of Flatware

-Tiny Fridge

Top Ramen
.

That was quick…kinda always associated it with the poor college student more than the Triathlete in training. Are you serious?

  1. Sushi - eat it, love it, it is good for you

  2. Instant oatmeal, fiber one ceral/skim milk, ff tapioca, bananas, McDonalds $1 side salads, ff starbucks lattes, egg beaters, clif bars, apples

  3. get a girlfriend to feed you

Never ate Top Ramen until recently. I’m freaking addicted. Where was I in college that I never bought this stuff. 7-9 for $1.00. Man I stick the money I save into my retirement accts or I buy tufo and chop up blocks and add it to my Top Ramen, someties add some veggies also. I only use half the seasoning packet. Oh fruit, veggies and yogurt are good also.

Top Ramen will kill you slowly

I spent a week in Mobile for training many years ago, I went into a shop and ordered a turkey sandwich with no mayo + sprouts, they looked at me like I was insane, “sprouts”?

And the GF thing, I did not realize you were a “geographical bachelor”

I am still working on #3 myself, so … I fend for myself with #2

Campbells chuncky soups.

Sandwiches

Peanut butter and anything.

I suggest if going for soup, read the label before purchasing, many are WAY too high in fat, calories and sodium

Here is one that would work: http://www.nutritionanalyser.com/food_composition/?fid=06018

I am definitely feeling your pain…exact same woes here at the Holiday Inn. Been eating lots of low fat vanilla yogurt with granola and Craisins (those cranberry things), veggie burgers in the microwave (love those spice black bean ones), canned fruit for desert, deli meat and cheese for some decent sandwiches (with some good whole wheat bread), peanuts for a healthy, protein-laden snack, and power bars for breakfast. On the weekends I splurge and go out to eat for dinner.

Coach – do you realize how much fat and someone is in Ramen noodles? It’s not like pasta – it’s fried in oil. Cheap? Yes. Nutritional? Not at all.

How about cereal, fruit, peanut butter (or almond butter), tuna (toss the empties somewhere outside of your room!), prepared salads, veggies, meats from somewhere like Whole Foods if there is anything like that near you, yogurt?

So you must know what I am up against in a town that considers Wal-Mart on its lists of things to do on a Friday. They eat their veggies here…just deep fried.

“Geographical Bachelor”…yes, wasn’t sure if that was a term people would understand. Good luck with your search.

sounds like Mobile

This is how we get rich TDY…eat healthy and not “average.” Good to know I am not alone!

This is going to be cool…I never tried Veggie Burgers or Craisins in Yougurt.

My list is growing faster than I imagined…getting hungry thinking about it.

I do know how to read labels. I really never performed well when I ate healthly. In fact twice I have revamped my diet to eat much better over a period of several months. Twice Iwas getting blown off the back at 18mph. As soon as the less healthly foods came back in I was much stronger and faster. label me weird.

“This is how we get rich TDY”

$70 daily per diem in Bahrain x 3mos = $$$ (back in the 90s anyway)

But the food over there is not at all heathly, well at least what I could find

I could only wish…the MAIN attraction here is the “Boll Weevil Monument”

They say that shit will make you slower.

“I do know how to read labels.”

Only a few things to look for: (I am not a nutritionist, so don’t flame me)

  1. Calories, less is better, but generally, you will need anough to fuel yourself

  2. Fat, less is better, you will get plenty, so shoot for fat free foods whenever possible, you will get used to the taste

  3. Fiber, more is better, I eat Fiber One for snacks, and try to eat as much fiber as I can

  4. Sodium, less is better, you will get enough, if training in the heat and sweating profusely, like El Paso, add some salt to your sports drinks

  5. Carbs, you need these, but dont go overboard

  6. Protien, eat egg beaters, bacon, low fat meats, low fat peanut butter, sushi, and energy bars … you will get enough

maybe that’s my problem! Mickie D’s here I come
