hey there all, im doing the pilarcitos stage race this weekend in the bay area. (www.pilarcitos.com) I am going to take my TT bike and my road bike.
But my question is, is it worth it to ride the TT bike with H3 and disk on the mountain TT, or should i go with my road bike thats about 3 lbs lighter. I havent been able to spot out the mountain time trial and i dont know if im going to have time on race morning to drive the course. The website is very informative but theres no race profile which would have helped me decide if the “mountain tt” is mountain enough to warrant the weight savings over the drag savings.
Don’t even think about taking the TT bike on the hilly course. It has a couple of nasty climbs and the rest is fairly twisty and bumpy anywhere where you might be able to get in aerobars.
I agree with Willy. I plan on riding my road bike for both TTs. I pre-rode the course and the two climbs are significant IMO. The middle third of the course is flat, but I’m not sure how much time you’ll save on the aerobars over such a short distance. Maybe if you had a pair of jammers for the road bike?
