Are 2007 Pigman IOWA Race Results posted?
Those jms guys are usually pretty good, but what happened today?? Did dkt repeat? What about the rest of the field. I got some friends that did it and I’m pretty surprised that neither midwestevents.com or the joms site has any info. I know that we’ve been getting hit with lots of t-storms in the midwest, but I’d think weather would have to be really, really horrible to not put on the race. I’m guessing they are just having tech difficulties?
The Rain held off for us. David did Repeat in 3:59, Jeremy Sartain was 2nd in 4:11 and Kevin O’Conner was 3rd in 4:13, Danny Morwood was 4th I think 4:16 and I was 5th in 4:19. Very humid conditions but the rain missed us.

As of this post they are not published.

They are usually posted by 10 PM CST.
I heard David Thompson cut the swim course. Can anyone verify that?
He wasn’t dq’d.
I was at the race and in the same heat and I heard nothing of the sort that David cut the swim course. Why would you post that if you didn’t know if it was true or not? Not cool! His swim time was in line with his abilities just under 25 mins.

I wonder how Jeremy’s bike split compared to David? I’m looking forward to watching him rip up the IM-WI course this year!
First off…
I am a big DT fan and have the utmost respect for his abilities, his classy representation of GW and the midwest triathlon scene. I aplogize if the post seemed derogetory. It was not meant to be.
I heard more than one person mention it after the race. They said he and the second swimmer out of the water swam inside the bouys on the last leg of the swim.
In no way did I say he did cut the course. I asked for confirmation and mentioned that there was no DQ.
Full results are up now…
Nice job Mark!!
Lori and Drew say nice job as well.
Very, very nice result for Kevin from gearwestbike.com. I’d gladly take a podium with those guys too.

One could swim inside the buoys and not be cutting the course (see: IMWI), as long as you went around the correct side at the turn buoys.
I have done Pigman half. The swim is a long clockwise triangle (at least it was in 2005), 2 turns. Once you go around the second turn buoy you are headed for home and it doesn’t really matter if you follow the buoys or not. The buoy line is probably the fastest way in, as it leads directly to the “SWIM FINISH” banner, so if anyone strayed from this line during “the last leg” they were likely making the swim longer, not shorter.
I think the people that “mention this after the race” do not understand the rules of triathlon. Really, if you think about it, all the participating athletes would have been in the water when this alleged incident occured – they couldn’t have seen anything. So who witnessed this? Somebody’s mom? And where there were no officials on the beach or in the water monitoring the two leaders of the race?
Lousy rumor.
Congrats to DT. That guy is the real deal.

Did y’all see he name “Montgomery Mouw”? There is a name from the 80’s I have not seen in a while!
Both he and his wife have been racing quite a bit this year! Looks like he had a tough run yesterday, but the dude can still swim damn fast.
Thank you for the explanation.
I guess it would help if I understood the rules as well.
And I agree, he is the real deal.
Thanks, Jason!
Tell Drew that I want a karate rematch with him.

Cool, just wanted to give a different perspective and make sure people new this wasn’t a fact. I was in his heat and stayed throught the day, talked to most of the top 10 guys and this was never mentioned by anyone to me.

I spent the first 10 minutes out of T1 biking in the rain. (We also got nailed with rain just before awards, but there were still people on the course) Overcast for the rest of the bike, I got into T2 and left my DeSoto Armcoolers hanging on my bike. Big mistake; about 10 minutes after that, the sun made enough of an appearance in the humidity to bake my arms red.
Everyone I talked to said that the run was very difficult despite how flat it was. The air was so humid it was viscous. Didn’t seem to be much of a problem for David; he was moving fast & in high spirit when he passed me on the out&back.
I was there yesterday and watching David run is amazing. He just makes it look so easy.
I suffered the heat on the run. I decided that I would not need my fuel belt because it was so cloudy in the morning I did not put it in transistion. On the run I sure wish that I had it. The heat and humidity seemed pretty bad but it could have been worse.
Great race put on by John. Good support.
I was there too. My first 70.3 distance. Got a brutal chaffing issue from my sleeveless wetsuit and had to go shirtless on the run…which I hate. I thought I had a decent shot at going sub 5 after an easy swim (34) and very easy bike (2:40) and just didn’t have it on the run. Couldn’t believe how much I had to walk.
One other thing. Powerade really sucks. That’s what they had on the course and although my system likes pretty much everything (Accelerade, Gatorade, GU, Hammer whatever…) Couple gulps of Powerade and instant cramp. So I lived on water and salt pills on the run…and guess what. Bonk! 2:02…with tons of walking and a nice sunburn.
I think that you are copying my race? I was hoping for a 5:10/5:15 range. My swim was 36:02, bike was 2:42, but then the run was 2:03. I had some bad chafing but I did not realize until after the race. I chaffed in places I did not know were chafable(sp) and I still do not see how I chaffed there?
Someone after the race was telling me about how powerade has high acidic levels and was telling me to try e-load. After one bottle of powerade that was about all I could drink and I then tried relying on water but I did not take in enough. I definitely need to look into different alternatives of drinks besides gatorade and powerade. IF anyone has some good recommendations I would appreciate it.
Congrats on your first 1/2
