Pictures of Trek's (Discovery's) new frame

It reportedly has a 1 1/8" (top) to 1 1/4" (bottom) headset, semi-compact geometry and an extended seattube mast and was ridden by Ekimov and Brajkovic:

eki has a mean mullet.

Is it the '07 Madone or new model?

Brad

Integrated headset??? Oh man…

Wow, thanks for posting this.

Interesting design. The oversized 1&1/4" bottom race and 1&1/8" top race design is already used by Kuota on their Kalibur model. It may make the front of the bike stiffer on out of the saddle climbs.

The rest of the bike looks interesting. I would guess these are pre-production prototypes out for testing, especially given the stack of spacers above the stem on Ekimov’s bike.

Another thing interesting about these photos is Ekimov himself. The man has been in top level bike racing for a few decades I think- he is certainly the most senior member of the pro peloton. Pretty impressive. Good to see him still racing.

I thought that Eki retired or was cut from the team?

Ekimov retired from racing. He’s the assistant director for the team now…

nice helmets

nice helmets

Why should Disco invest in helmets? There are currently more riders than slots on the market and riders brains are not there most valueable assets anyway.

Seriously, I dont understand the riders, can’t be the unbearable heat if I see the hats. And with a thin cap and a helmet, it is possible to train, did it today.

On a recent trip to the TREK factory I saw a frame which appeared to be some sort of prototype. It was different than anything I had ever seen from Trek. The frame was sitting on a desk in a “off limits to the public” area.
It was raw carbon and looked very much like the bikes in the Disco pics.
Very nice stuff on the way …As usual.

My first impression from that pic is that it looks a lot like a Cervelo. Beefy around the head tube, and little skinny seat stays.

It looks a lot like a Giant to me…

Too bad we wont see them too often in 2007.

Integrated headsets again!

A little sarcasm Axel??

Me? Sarcasm?

A little sarcasm Axel??

Was told last week by our Trek rep that a new design was in the offing for 2008, he hinted that we might see it at the Dauphine Libre in May/June (?). He also mentioned that the sizing would be addressed for us tall folks (6’6" and won’t quite fit the current 62cm) although I haven’t quite got my head round riding a frame with such a big slope on the top-tube but they look good under the pros. Thanks Irondad, great pics. edit - oops, thanks to hooker_elite too!

i have no idea. i was just jealous of the hairdo.

Integrated headset? Proprietary fork? Extended seat tube? And this is a new, ‘upgraded’ model?! FWIW, I think that these new ‘extended seat tube mast thingees’ are the worst trend to have made any sort of traction in the market. Adds no material value to the bike, only makes it much more difficult to travel with.
