Here are a couple of pics of my New kick’n Lucero. These were taken at the Jacobs Engineering Wind Tunnel in Detroit. More Pics and Movies to follow on my site.
Very cool… was this the initial position or the final? I do think you’re a stretched out. Also did your try other angles for the helmet?
cables…black.
Nice bike! What kind of bike computer are you using and how do you have the sensor attached to your front fork? I’m having trouble adequately securing my Hac4 sensor to the fork on my Lucero.
Thanks
size? Any idea on weight?
This past weekend I installed new Black Nokon cables, very slick and much cleaner.
Size is 650 Small, With Corima Race wheels, 17.8 lbs.
Cordless cateye. The computer is mounted on the base bar with zip ties.
The position in the pics was in progress, and stationary for baseline drag testing. Once we had a position we liked, then we started pedaling. We tested 2 helmets in 2 head positions through out the bike positions. The Aryon and Syton, facing forward and facing down (looking down 3-4 feet out). When the aero helmet had the tail sticking up it created a vacum on my back and butt, which actually causes you to slow. Also, we found that a vacum was created as air rolled off my butt and under the saddle. I will post some video clips tonight with the different examples. Jay Williams from San Antonio, FIST certified, came up with the position protocal.
What’s with the tan side-walled tyre?
KHS Dist. had Vittoria’s on sale, so I saved a little bit of coin that I used to order some zero gravity brakes.
sweet lookin Lucero- It looks cool with no cutout- kinda like a carbon version of the old Felt DA bike!
Thanks. The 650 also has more carbon connecting the top tube and down tube behind the headset, its has to add to the aerodynamics, right
Sam; What’s with the dork with the smoke wand?
Couldn’t you find better help than JW?
I like his “safety first” eyewear and “comfortable” shoe choice.
When you’re ready to move up to a P3C I’ll hook you up.
See you at the races…DCR
You know how he likes to play with wands
The guys from JE were really strict about the state of the art, high tech optical viewing lenses. I don’t think Jay owns any other shoes.
Take care!
Hey…I know that guy! Sam, so you’re back to racing I see? When and where?
Not racing too much this year, just training and working here in San Antonio. I will probably do the Tall Texan and Ironstar again.
Hope your training and racing is going well, miss you guys up in Dallas.
how tall are you, and what ist the length of your legs?
I`'m thinking about a lucero in S.
thanks,
when do the posts start bashing you b/c folks are jeleous of your bike and want your speed? you have a web site - shouldn’t someone start attacking you now?
sweet ride…very cool.
There’s a bike in the photos? sorry…got distracted
I didn’t realize that getting fit in a wind tunnel had so much to do with dangling a phalic shaped object emitting who knows what. Too much like a money shot for me.
Sammy:
What kind of wind tunnel was this. Looks like a open room to me with Jay shooting flashed glycol at you.
Very nice bike, Under 18 lbs for for a Med. with the current wheels?
Mike - Bike is low 17’s. The wind Tunnel is owned and Operated by Jacobs Engineering, the Sverdrup group. Ford uses the facility to do most of their testing. The facility has more wind tunnels as such in the picture with dynos. The room is big enough to fit metro buses and other large vehicles in. The strain gauges are located below the floor. They also have some smaller rooms. The tunnel we used has a max speed of about 150, and has a 20 something foot CARBON propeller. Its very sweet. It was also used earlier in the week (that we went) by FORD to test “drafting” with Tom Demerly and others. We did most of our tests between 20-40 mph.
Disco54 - I am about 5’6" with a 29" inseam. Since the testing i have put on a zero stack cap for the headset and dropped the stem with no spacers. I also moved the saddle up about 2.5 mm. I did the Texas State TT a week ago and had a 3 min improvement on my 40k time, 1hr to 56:50 (same course, same conditions, 1 year difference). I have to attribute some of that to my improved aerodymanics and less drag.
madisonbucky - thanks.
bt - jay or i?
iheartfestina - it gets really warm too, and has a funny taste…
