Pics from Husky Long Course - Crowie competing

http://gallery.me.com/dwatling/100030

These pics are of the bikes in transition and during the race. I came down in the afternoon of the day before to scope out the bikes, when who strolls in but the current world champ. Bike check in was already closed, but im guessing u get special dispensation when your bike has #1 on it. As you can see from the pics, Crowie sat there for ages fiddling with his bike, making sure it was absolutely perfect.

It was quite funny to see an official stroll up and ask gruffly “What bike number is that mate?”

Crowie turned around, and calmly answered, “Number One”

The official was most helpful after that.

Shimano are obviously taking care of him, judging by the brand new stickers he was making sure were stuck properly on his rims. Dont want him switching to SRAM. On that note, he appears to not be using Zipps anymore. I took some closeups shots of his wheels, and there are definately no dimples there. Im guessing they are Hed Stingers, unless Shimano has some prototype deep dish noone knows about.

Whilst sitting there fiddling with his brakes, he spun the front wheel. Only slowly, but man did it look smooth. Ceramics all round? An official muttered later on that his bike was worth $23000. I know some on here will poo-poo that, and say ‘how can you tell?’ in regards to the ceramics, and all i can answer to that is, i guess you had to be there.

Anyways, enjoy the pics. I took nearly 900, so if someone wants to know if i have a pic of them, msg back with race number, bike brand etc and ill see if i have a pic.

cheers

Thanks for posting, I enjoyed the narrative and the pics were awesome.

I think it’s great that Crowie (of all people) seems to be the only one noticing the camera is there.

you cant imagine how annoyed i was that i fluffed that shot
.

Great shots. Thanks.

Whereabouts is the Husky LC race? The title made me think Canada or N E US but your slang and profile suggests that Crowie didn’t get his feet wet prior to the swim.

Any results?

Husky is short for Huskisson, and its the Australian Long Course Championships.

For the pros its a 3km swim, 80km ride, 21 km run. For age groupers its only a 2km swim.

Crowie ended up coming second behind Pete Jacobs, another pro, that was riding a Quintana Roo Caliente with all the QR labels covered with black masking tape. I wonder who he is actually sponsored by.

Either way, judging by the results and times, Crowie appeared to have a quite poor swim, then spent the rest of the morning chasing. He had the fastest run, but was coming from behind.
For full results and a breakdown of times head to http://multisportaustralia.racetectiming.com/default.aspx and select select Jarvis Bay Triathlon Festival, then Australian Long Course.

Cheers Mate. I would imagine Crowie’s season is going to start in earnest a little later than Pete’s hence he’s not being so sharp right now.

Much what i figured as well

Were you the guy that was taking pics just before the first stop sign coming back into town on that slight downhill section?

Had a couple of the boys with you?

Was a great race, apart from some of the blatant cheats on the bike…

Im betting Crowies wheels are new shimano wheels…so new in fact that they shipped them to him before the decals were ready.
We were watching the pro elimination races at the roundabout right out the front of the husky pub, after we had racked our bikes , and Crowie walked down with his bike to the Shimano guys.

Definitely no decals on his wheels at that stage. We saw them sitting on the front seat of the van. Mate of mine asked for a couple and was flat out told they dont have any to give out.

I guess they all ended up on Crowies bike

Edit: BTW, thats only a 12 spoke front wheel he is running there (very clear on my pic of his bike)

thanks mate, what a fantastic weekend of racing it was. enormous effort for Pete Jacobs to hang on in front of Crowie.

Andrew69: yep that was me, with my brother’s kids. Got a lot of grins and thumbs up from riders that must have though i was an official photographer. Got a lot of dirty looks from the women riders…

Hairy: ill go through the photos and see…to be honest i was focussing mostly on the exotic stuff, but i still took quite a lot of everyone

no worries, none of us were at the pointy end that’s for sure

Macandbumble,

Just sent PM. I notice that you got my wife in the album on her new machine, she will be stoked to see that for sure! She loved her race number!

Hehe dont say anything, but he won his age group by a LONG way
.

Hey, great to see some pics! I was down on the day of also. I got a ride with a guy I met here in town (Wollongong) from the tri team, but we didn’t get down there until around 10ish, so by the time I got to the transition zone, all pros were long gone. I got some good pics of the finish of Pete Jacobs and Crowie though: (dunno how to resize  )
