I’m looking to do my first ironman next year. my wife and i will travel and vacation together for one major race next year.
requirements:
second half of the year.
secure country.
enjoyable place to vacation (will take a week after the race).
or, should i do IM wisc. or florida and travel to honu or st. croix halfs or any other great destination races?
thanks for your input.
second half of the year.
so you talking late season? Then Perth, otherwise I would suggest IM NZ in March. The wife and I had a really good time in NZ, befor, during and after the race.
new zealand sounds very nice.
IM Austria or Honu and IMMoo. IMO, travelling overseas and planning a holiday around my first IM would be way too stressful.
I just signed up for IM Coeur D’Alene. When picking out my 1st IM, I looked at the list and always bypassed Coeur D’Alene because I thought it was somewhere in France! From what I hear, northern Idaho is one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Lots of lakes and moutains. It’s not too late to get in either. And what is more secure than Idaho? I doubt it’s on a terrorist’s hit list!
I have retired from IM racing but if the wife started talking about IM NZ or another overseas race at the latter half of the year I would dig out the running shoes and speedos again. We had a really good time in NZ, people friendly, easy to get around, relatively quiet, great country side and from the west coast of the States easy to get to. One of the issues with racing abroad is the language during race week, but no problems in this case. But it means having to train throuh winter.
Is Honu a good prep for IMMoo in terms of hills or were you just saying that because he brought up Honu as a vacation destination?
