Pic of my super HOT bike (Yaqui) prior to IMLP bike check in!

I finally have a beautiful picture of my bike, so I thought I’d share it with everyone… since my bike deserves some public admiration!!! I don’t see too many Yaqui pics posted, and I don’t think I ever saw a purple one before.

I hope this pic posting works (I’ve never tried it before, plus I’m a bit retarded).

Here he is, with his race wheels, his name is Penguino, and yes, these are 650c wheels (the frame is insanely tiny!!!)

How do you get your bottles in and out? And what size frame is that?

Thank you!

Nice bike, but how *do *you get those bottles out?

The frame is custom, since they don’t mass produce bikes that small… I don’t know what size that would translate to technically. I’m 5 ft tall, with a longer torso (vs. a typical chick)–which I guess complicated things.

Hmmm… getting the bottles in and out… It’s always a little bit of a challenge, it’s harder to put them in vs. taking them out. I just yank them out, from the side… kinda used to it by now, since that’s the only way I’ve ever been able to do it. The front one is easy, the back one–don’t even get me started.

very nice, but where’s your spare tire?

I didn’t have a spare with me because I have no clue how to glue a tubular anyway–so there was no point in bringing that thing along. No one I know uses tubulars (I got these wheels used, for a good price, otherwise I would have just bought clinchers)–so I have no one to teach me.

However, I DID have 2 bottles of Vittoria Pit Stop with me, one in my jersey pocket, another one in my spec. needs bag–and although I’ve never used them, I studied the instructions and read a lot of info online on how to use it. Seemed like a WAY easier (and safer) alternative vs. glueing a tubular (I wouldn’t trust myself to ride the tires I glued myself, especially with the Keene descent!). Luckily I didn’t need any of that…

Nice bike. First you should go to a local bike shop and make someone teach you how to replace your tubie in the event of a blowout. Piece of cake. No need to be intimidated about this. Mounting and replacing tubulars just takes a little bit of attention to detail and it comes out perfect. Secondly, you should check out the side entrance bottle cages. Would definitely make hydrating easier. BTW, how’d the race go?

I know, this is on a (long) to-do list  I’ll learn one day (I’m a very slow learner when it comes to any kind of technical/mechanical stuff… a chick–what can you do???)

Regarding the side entrance cages, funny that you mention this, I had dinner with some friends last night and that topic was discussed (I didn’t even know such a thing existed). I’m pretty used to the ones I have now–and also just got a set of purple ones, to match the frame (but not the side entry ones). I haven’t installed them yet though–I figured I didn’t want to take chances with new bottle cages for IMLP.

The race went great, thank you! Everything went perfectly, solid bike and run and a slow (but exactly on target with my expectations) swim. 12:50, good for top one-third in my AG. Now I just need to learn how to swim like normal people do, and get a little bit faster on both bike and run! I’m also a holder of the “golden ticket” for next year’s race!!!
