It’s winter here and I exercise outside a lot and I feel as though I get used to the cold, what felt cold in Novemeber no longer feels so bad, seems to happen every year.
Now, at the same time, I have been riding the trainer this winter in a very hot part of my basement and doing enough riding that I suspect the normal heat acclimation process has happened.
So, now I feel cold. Is this in my head or does the process of heat acclimation lead a person to be a wimp about cold? The horror.
Sometimes I wonder if it is all psychological. I can spend all winter in Ottawa, show up in St. Croix, feel the heat on day 1 and by day 4 even though the temp is hot it does not feel that hot. I can’t imagine that my body went through any drastic transformation in such a short time. Likewise cold. I do think that even if it is mainly mental, you still have to expose yourself to either extreme.
But if (a big if) I remember my college physiology correctly, assuming I actually do heat accilate, then my blood volume is higher and my blood is more watery, I wonder if this makes a person colder?
