My wife has a torn meniscus and has seen one Doc in Flagstaff. Would like to get a second opinion on her knee. She’s primarily a runner age 54, and in great shape. Bummed because she has a tear (MRI already done) and has been given a surgery recommendation to excise the torn piece. She has looked in to PRP treatment, but Docs are not generally recommending it due to no insurance coverage for it and lack of clinical peer reviewed studies. Phoenix, Az. area sports minded experienced Docs?
My primary care (active triathlete) recommended:
Dr. Cory Nelson (480) 353-044 - I went and saw him and liked him and wanted a second opinion as well. That was…
Dr. Shelden Martin (480) 685-2850 - Who I got my second from and did my micro-fracture (full chondral defect)
I went with Martin primarily due to location (south part of valley) but had good conversations with both. Nelson is north Scottsdale, so might be closer for you from Flag.
For torn meniscus and other cartilage problems you should really do your homework. Saw a study in the last six months showing that if the tear wasn’t a result of trauma the 18 month results were same surgery or not. Sorry, don’t have the cite.
I think PRP and others are in the range of “emerging but not proven” but that’s up to you to figure out.
HTH.
