Philly to Trenton...any good way to ride it (commute)?

Has anyone ever biked from Center City Philadelphia to downtown Trenton? Do you know any good routes and/or are they reasonably safe for a commute (not more than 1 or 2x per week)?

I saw a route on the East Coast Greenway website
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&sll=40,-75&sspn=0.284599,0.615234&q=http://greenway.org/maps/googlemapdata/ECG-PA2.kml&ie=UTF8

If you follow the “gray” line on the google map it has a good route in terms of a direct route, but it’s on some pretty heavily traveled roads in NE philly (not the greatest biking I’m sure, though I’ve not ridden it yet). I was thinking of test riding it to see, but just curious if there is any other way?

Thanks for the input

none that i know of. even just getting up into NE philly can be frustrating.

you could ask some of the people over at BCGP.

Not sure if it’s out of the way, but you should be able to cross from PA to Trenton over the Calhoun Street Bridge. I’m almost 100% certain it has a pedestrian walkway.

If you’re willing to add a few miles, I would suggest going over the Ben Franklin bridge (although the don’t allow cyclists before 7AM and after 7PM in their response to terrorism). Once over the bridge, you can jump on 543 (River Road). It improves fast and isn’t so bad. Get over to 537 (Cove Road is a good choice). Take 537 to 541 (Marne Road) - and that will take you to Mt. Holly. Go to 628 North (Jacksonville Rd). That will get you to Bordentown. I don’t recall my path beyond that, except to say that other I’ve ended up in downtown Trenton a few times (on good, safe roads).

I would think this option is safer than NE Philly, but also probably much longer, too.

PM Dawhead, he knows a bike route for just about everything. He has a route from the mainline area to Frenchtown i think so you would only have to go half way.
