Most of the YMCA have a streamliners swimming class that I enjoy it is usually taught by Div I swimmers that can critique your stroke and know enough drills to keep things enjoyable. My YMCA also has a Triathlon swimming class the only problem is that they only offer it 10-11 on wednesdays.

I also know this lady does tri swim lessons I chatted with her briefly at a charity ride so I cannot comment if they are worth it.

Search Guys Multisport club they have all sorts of trainings etc

Hope this helps

i haven’t done any of this, but:
-there’s masters swimming at germantown academy and villanova (both in the suburbs), and at friends select (center city);
-cadence cycling does a winter triathlon swim clinic (kinda pricey, but i imagine it’s good)
-don’t know anything about 1on1 training, but if you want something good and don’t mind spending money, i’d say call cadence and find out. they’re more & more focused on tri these days.
-welcome to philly!

here is the inside view of cadence - not because i don’t like them cause they are gettign much bigger into triathlon. but they are not really catering to beginners…cadence is expensive and Laurie Hugg does not really work well with the beginner. I heard from someone else who signed up for her series last spring, and it was supposedly for swimmers for all levels including beginners……but she (laurie) expected them all to be able to swim all strokes. So she bailed. So I am not sure what good that does for someone who does not know how to swim well and wants to improve.
That was also the case for masters swimming at Germantown Academy and Villanova – it was more for people who knew how to swim and to give you a workout. Not really a place to help you learn to swim. So best is to actually get personal lessons to help you learn what exactly YOU need to learn. I coached at GA for about a year and a half, and decided I preferred private coaching over swim team for the very reason that I could help each individual during each session.
If you need to reach me - yes, the gal someone met while riding a century – well, you have my website www.nutrition-in-motion.net. There is my contact info – email, phone, etc.
And yes, I do work weekends :slight_smile:

That’s surprising.
I’d have thought that they knew their market - triathletes in good shape who can’t do flip turns and only swim freestyle.
shows what i know…

most triathletes DON"T know how to do flip turns - at least not new triathletes. and who needs a flip turn in open water swimming?? then free style is what they swim, but not as well as they could - hence the need for a real swim program to teach basics as well. i teach breathing first - if you cannot breath properly, you cannot relax in teh water. the less relaxed you are, the more energy you expend fighting the water. had one client this morning who just acquired a new level of relaxation and it made him swim so much faster and more efficiently. he was amazed.
i will be putting a clinic together for next year, but have yet to get dates.

Whereabout are you moving in Philadelphia? I believe I might be able to help you out… send me a PM. -John
