I think it might be a pipe dream on the wet suit legal… Last years sprint (they did the swim) was NON wetsuit for results.
Personally - I though the water was very warm and was glad they made it a NON wetsuit day. and I SUCK at swimming. the suit would have been an oven. It had also rained a ton right before the race and did nothing to cool the water down. They had it measured at 79, but it felt like luke warm or tepid warm to me.
As for me - Well I love the race, but it’s back up to Lake Placid for some more laps.
Good luck and best speed to all !!!
I’ll be there. I think it will be wetsuit legal. If not oh well you know still have to swim it.
I am in, but you all will be WAY ahead of me. I am in one one the last waves, and I am not that fast. After last year, a swim would be nice, if the weather cooperates. From what I understand, Rivercast is not the deciding factor to see if we swim or not, or for water temp. Let hope Lars’s thermometer is generous Sunday morning on the temp.
If it is a duathlon again this year I’ll prob become a spectator rater than a participant. If by chance it does become a du hopefully they make it 5k-40k-5k instead of 5k-40k-10k like last year. Why penalize the strong swimmers even more by making it 5k more of running? The 5k course is already set so could easily be used in place of the 10k after the bike. I’ve never understood the reasoning behind keeping the the 2nd run as 10k if a 5k is added in the front.
I’ll be racing M35-39 on my new Elite Razor Carbon. The swim cancellation screwed me last year (strong swimmer), then I flatted out on Lemon Hill.
I believe the Phillyrivercast Website does no water quality testing, rather they post Red/Yellow/Green ratings based on recent rainfall. As I recall, the RD does not consider this Website’s rating when calling go/no go on the swim. I doubt water quality will be an issue this year - last year we got like 5 inches of rain the night before race.
As for wetsuits, I hope the water temp is under 78. If the temp is in that 78-84 range, I get conflicted over whether or not to wear the wetsuit. I won’t come anywhere near a podium spot, so I don’t care about award eligibility, but I want to race on a level playing field. If the temp is under 84, some will wear them. I probably will too, but I sort of feel like it’s cheating. What will the rest of you non-podium finishers do?
I’ll be racing M30-34. Just checked the web site for river cast and it looks like we are all set at 11 AM today it goes back to green status. No real rain in the forecast either. Just lots of sunshine out side right now. Water temps are really close for wetsuit legal. Hopefully it will be a good one this year. I won’t be very excited if it’s a duathlon.
