Who else is racing? Think it is going to be wetsuit legal? Yesterday the temp was 78, and today it is 77, at least according to this website http://phillyrivercast.org/
3pm update…79 degrees, NICE!!!

I’ll be there as well. Given all the rain we had last night and today, my guess is the water will stay at or under 78 (at least that’s what I’m hoping).
I’ll be there for the Oly (and maybe spectating the sprint).
With all the rain and the cooler temps I think we might have 77-78 but I wouldn’t bet on it. I tried out one of the new Zoot speed suit things last weekend and i might wish I had bought it!

Opps. I started a different thread. Yup I’m in. Water? Just hope they don’t canel the swim again (though it would greatly benefit me).
I’m actually curious if I’ll be near anyone.
I’m going off in the 30-34 AG.
Hoping for 28ish (if no wetsuit), 71ish, and 37ish for SBR times.
Anyone else going to be in the vicinity?
knock on wood, but the forecast seems pretty good for a good clean swim.
Barry, take 5 minutes off of your bike, multiply x2, and then add it to the run time and that’s about what I’m looking for in that same age group.
As I’ve done at every sort of race for the past decade, I’ll be sporting my ever so un-technical “Jim Beam” t-shirt
I’m hoping for no wetsuits
But as BarryP said, I’m just hoping for a swim in the first place as well. Swimming in a wetsuit in water above 74 degrees is just disgustingly hot!
Then odds are I will see you at the turn around.
Look for a tall, skinny bald guy who is passing people on the run.
I will probably see you out on the run course as well. Goals of <18, <58, <39. Our wave starts 30 minutes after you, so you will still be a good 10-15 minutes up the road. Look for this unsavory character.
You people make me sick ![]()
Between nearly a year of fighting ITBS and a type 3 shoulder separation Sunday will be just a training day… I’ll be happy to be under 3 hours ![]()

I just took a look a the “river cast” website to see the water temp. Not only did it go up to 79 degrees today, but they changed the water quality from ‘green’ to ‘red’ - as in, don’t swim in the river. Is this what happened last year?
There was a concern for water quality last year, but by the weekend it was fine and they swam on saturday. Unfortunately, rains washed a lot of debris into the river and Sunday’s swim was cancelled.
I’ll be there as a volunteer on Sunday, somewhere (not sure where yet). I’ll try and look for some of you.
Tykar: We had major thunderstorms here last night (1-2" of rain in some places), so the runoff always makes the Schuylkill pretty gross for 24-48 hours post-rain. However, it moves through very quickly. I’ve spent plenty of time on the river in a Dragon Boat, and it’s really a fast self-cleaner.
The weather looks good for both races this weekend, so no worries - you will swim. But I bet regardless of the water temperature, it’ll be wetsuit legal. You know, that last-minute miracle where the water is measured at 77.8F. Somewhere. Like 12 feet down.

I’ll be there. I think it will be wetsuit legal. If not oh well you know still have to swim it.
I’ll be racing. I raced last year. No swim was and is an advantage for me, but I am hoping for the swim–I need the practice. I hope it is wetsuit legal–I need the extra speed from the wetsuit and to practice transition with it. I am shooting for sub 25 on the swim, sub 1:09 on the bike and sub 40 on the run. I’m happy this year to be running without a foot injury. Last year 2 runs was torture even if I am I runner! Good luck everyone!
Right now the temp is back to 77, but the water is poor quality and “not safe for swimming”. Heck, according to the website it might not even be safe for boating…NO DUATHLON…please!!!
Hahah. It should clear out in the next 2 days or so. If they turn it into a Duathlon that will ruin the whole month of June for me and I am going to demand a refund. I am a triathlete not a duathlete. I Swim-Bike-Run not Run-Bike-Run.
I’m in too, 35-39.
I’ll also bet that the swim will be wetsuit legal…big city race with a lot first-timers, TNT, etc. you can be sure that they will find some 77°F water. I just hope we swim this year!
Good luck everybody.
Chris
As long as it doesn’t rain again and/or go below 72, I’ll be happy.
Have you been cycling or running much in your build-up to Open Water worlds? Can you swim Limkemann off you feet to get the swim preme (if there is one…)?
Rivercast may be red, but I drove on the Schuylkill today and there were about 6 crew boats in it…
There were no wetsuits last year during the sprint…the river responds quickly to temperatures and it is going to be hot these next couple of days…despite my brand Helix (mucho thanks to my sponsor) I’m hoping for NO wetsuit.
I’ll be there both days!
Good luck everyone!
