Phelps is a Hero

** Because the US is a backass, Puritan founded country that can’t shake the puritan roots.**

I’ve never been in the US so maybe I should not judge, but this is exactly my view on Americans. Glad I live on the good side of the Ocean.
Yeah, maybe you shouldn’t.

Having actually lived half my life on both sides on the ocean, the US does have some archaic views on such things as public morality, at least by European standards, but I will take the whole picture any day.

Those puritan roots lead to the wealthiest, most successful, most powerful country in history.

And while it may change in the future, I have far more freedoms and rights in the US than in any European country.

You can have smoking weed in public, I’ll take the US.

PS, we can take this to the Lavender room if you wish

I called him and asked him if the pic was real, he said yes, but he was trying to smoke crack not MJ
.

I lived in Europe and the USA (I’m a Canuk), but think you’re being a little harsh on the Euros. Of course it depends which European country you’re talking about. Also even depends on which part of the USA. There are things I prefered or disliked about both places when in comparison and the same when you throw in Canada.

They say there is no one place on the planet where you can get it all.

"and the reason is that it’s NOT a narcotic. "

Kind of beside the point, but,…the word “narcotic” carries more definitions than strictly the medical or legal ones. Oxford Dictionary also defines a narcotic as something that induces drowsiness, sleepiness, or stupor or a drug that affects the mind. The word “narcotic” was used to describe any illegal drug since the 20s and has only fairly recently been legally and medically defined otherwise.
yes…let’s continue the tradition of ignorance and just call things whatever you want…even if it’s totally wrong…just like the good old days.

I’m not sure why you’re slinging the attitude, but if a word was first defined in a particular way, and is still defined that way in the dictionary, then we’re not talking about just “calling things whatever I want,” now are we?

Did not say “everyone” that does it turns into a drug fiend. All it takes is your son , daughter or someone very close to you and you will think differently. What makes you think I have no expierence on the other side?

Those puritan roots lead to the wealthiest, most successful, most powerful country in history.

I would give a hell of a lot more credit to the founding fathers being good students of Adam Smith (capitalism) and the Greeks (democracy) than to “puritan roots.”

Lavender what?

Great post.

I agree.

cough…cough…just woke up from a nap with wrappers of ring dings everywhere…who did what now?

great thread…its a weed, so technically it’s on the Paleo Diet therefore it 's ST approved! Right?

Why should it shake it's Puritan roots?
Why should it shake it's Puritan roots?
 because they're puritan...duh... ;)

not attitude. fact.
words have meaning and a narcotic is an opiate…even if the day to day meaning has been altered.
it might be easier to be all bent out of shape if he was shooting heroin, but i’m no more shocked about him having a bowl as i would
be about him going out for a beer.

“words have meaning and a narcotic is an opiate…even if the day to day meaning has been altered.”

You apparently didn’t read what I posted. “Narcotic” had a different meaning BEFORE it was redefined to only apply to opiates. In the dictionary, those previous meanings are STILL listed next to the word “narcotic.” I am not defining the word however I want. I am defining it as it is defined in the dictionary. Again, I’m not sure why you’ve got such a poor attitude.

"i’m no more shocked about him having a bowl as i would

I’m not shocked either. Unfortunately, drinking a beer isn’t likely to cost a swimmer his endorsements. Smoking pot is. For an example, I think we only have to look to Gary Hall Jr., who, if I remember correctly, was dumped by Speedo for a positive marijuana test.

How does this come as a surprise to people! There is only one possible way that a human being can consume 10,000 calories of chocolate pancakes. Super Baked!

hell, phelps wins…everything! If I was a swimsuit maker I’d sure want him to be wearing my suit. It’s easy to cut a loser from the payroll but not so much a 16 time medal winner. Can we please legalize drugs, tax the hell out of them and end decades worth of violence while lowering income taxes?

I smoked a lot of weed in my college years. So did pretty much all of my friends. Most of my friends from High School did too. It was very prevelant where I lived. Not one person that I know of went on to use hard drugs or become any kind of addict. I never did anything stronger except booze. Its possible one or two of them graduated up to narcotics but they are all alive and gainfully employed. The drinkers, on the other hand, have lost lives.

I understand pot being seen as a gateway drug but that goes against my personal experience and I honestly think people make far too big of a deal out of it.

I have no problem with someone smoking weed. Booze is far more dangerous and I have a bigger problem watching someone get puking drunk, which is legal, than watching someone smoke a joint and eat Doritos. I personally was far better behaved when stoned than when drunk.

Michael isn’t a hero, the pilot who landed in the Hudson is a hero. Michael is an incredible athlete.

Seriously. He had practice at 5:00 a.m. He was hanging with friends. He could A: Drink 12 Miller Lites and miss practice (EG Pre) or B: Take a couple rips from a bong, got to bed at 9 p.m. and wake up at 4:30 a.m. ready for practice.

He’s a kid. He’s not president. Oh wait. He could have smoked a joint and got a blowjob from a inferior employee and be hailed a hero.

this isn’t really going anywhere. you figure that pot smoking is bad because it’s illegal (and only that from what i can tell).
i say that it’s not and the ‘law’ isn’t just. it’s just a relic.
speedo wearing could be illegal and it wouldn’t be any less wacky…then he’d really be up the creek.

So Bernie Maddoph must be downright TITS in your book because he gave you an opportunity to talk to your kids about financial ponzi schemes.

It’s a shame Heath Ledger is dead so we can’t thank him for the terrific lesson on overdosing prescription drugs. An hero to us all.

And lets not forget about OJ and how we all learned something about domestic abuse from him. God bless him!

Most buzzed drivers also make it home safely. What’s your point?

And - every person I knew - older than me, younger than me, and the same age as me - who took more than one experimental inhale is a goddamn loser today. What does that prove?
