Has anyone ridden the new Petoskey Triathlon bike course. The blurb at the 3 Disciplines site says it has “heart pounding climbs and fast decents”.
I’m just wondering whether to take my road bike with aerobars or my tri-bike. Whichever I take I’ll make sure to take my 12-27 cassette “just in case”.
The ride is fairly hilly. It has about 1350 feet of climbing over the 17 to 18 miles. It starts with a decent climb to get you going and then flattens out for a while. The Atkins road part is rolling with some hard short climbs. You will spend the majority of the ride in your bars except for these steep hills when most will stand. The last two miles is all down hill. I would bring the tri bike, unless you climb like Farley, and then I would not bother coming. This will be a fun event, thank you for coming to Petoskey.
Haven’t ridden the course, but I can’t wait to do it this weekend. From the swim and the 400m run to t1 then the hilly bike and scenic run course makes it sound great. Hopefully this will be the highlight of my tri season… Good luck and see you there…
I will be riding the course at lunch today. As I understand- Gar (3car) has ridden the course 114 times and is intimately familiar with every rock, pebble and subtle road nuance. He is an authority- and a bad man.
This will be a blast. There are going to be a lot of local racers- namely Team Wolfpack of Traverse City and Team Taint out of Harbor Springs and Petoskey. Come one come all- as we are really lucky to have a race set in this area, you will not be disappointed.
Sounds like Petoskey is going to be a great race. I am sorry I have to miss it. It’s a little too far away and I have a lot of stuff to get done before heading out to IMC. Good luck to all.
This is going to be a great race, but Deeg, I will have to wait until next year to get the satisfaction of kicking your ass on your home turf. I have some other commitments which will prohibit me from making it this weekend. Good luck at IM Wisc.
Anthes- I will shave my head if necessary if it is the advantage I need to put you in my rear view mirror next year. I have copied this post and put it on my wall as a constant reminder to train, train to shatter your spirit. I was just starting to worry that after IM WIS there is no goal, no reason to keep training- well here it is. It is on my man.
as an aside, say hi to the family and ring me when you are up next
For those of you coming early for the race: Check Petoskey.com website for schedule of events. Friday thru Sunday is the Festival By the Bay. This is the first year, but it sounds like a lot of fun things are planned for the whole family. Sorry for the shameful pitch.
triathlon- I grant you a glimmer of hope based upon your quite rapid progression in the sport.
Skiing- no way, I will bust you in half- and no silly Nastar. We race the big hill- friday night all comers race at nubs nob. I will even give you a handicap and will compete nordic telemark, sans heel.
I just rode the route at lunch- I know the roads well but have not ridden the course as designed. In sum, it is great. The climbs could be tough but there are some parts well you well be able to motor. I would suggest driving it if you get a chance before the race. Also, take heed as to the instructions to cool it the last 800 meters as it will be a screamer downhill. I think you will love the course- the hills are there, but the ain’t that bad
