…OK, I’m in for the Half Ironman. I might be a bit cooked from IronTour Lake Placid last weekend, but nothing like signing up for a race to force me to take 3 days easy leading in and 3 days to recover :-). It will also give me a chance to ride my loaner Cervelo Soloist in race conditions before Ironman LP.
I look forward to another thrashing at the hands of Allan Faulds, Steve Bentley and Marc Flageole, all sub 9:30 Ironman Florida studs. In some weird twisted dream, I envision myself swimming and then biking with Faulds before he puts 15 minutes on me after T2
I’ll be staying in the campground adjacent to the race sight, cell = 613-297-0091. I’ll arrive some time on Sat evening.
For those who have not met him personally, Steve Fleck is going to be the race announcer. Go introduce yourself to him. Steve, I promise I won’t run your girlfriend off the road…she just has to promise that as soon as I stick my front wheel in front of her, she drops back 3 bike lengths
Dev, you know that you always get me out of the house with a line like this. But next weekend, I’m just going to watch my cool tri gear and do a little internat. dist. race in NYC. Sorry to pass up on this. Would be a good opportunity to revenge my 4 1/2 min behind you at tupperlake. :o)
Kaiser Kus, the difference in Tupper was 17 seconds…given that you have a Javelin and a P2K, you better be doing double the training and racing of all the studs on this forum. Good luck at NYC tri. Don’t let those soft Americans kick your east german ass. Did you book your flight for the Ottawa Half Ironman yet. I told all the boys on the Wed morning 90K ride that I am importing some East German talent to put the lame Canadian posers in their place on Sep 4th.
Markus, the focus of your season is Ironman, so I would recommend that you not do Peterborough half, but the sprint would be a great idea. For me, Ironman is not the focus of my season, it is just another race, so going to do a half Ironman this weekend is OK (well, not really, I’ll likely suffer at LP because of it).
I wouldn’t race it…but it is so tempting. I am discovering that racing an IM certainly puts a damper on the ability to race lots of other races in the summer. Kinda sucks. But in a good way
M~
I’d love to be there, as the Peterborough sprint in '99 was my first race ever, but I am taking some much needed R&R after qualifying for IMFLA at Muskoka. I will be racing at the Parry Sound 1/2, if you’d like to give me an ass kicking …

Good luck in the 1/2!

Parry Sound was super fun last year. Loved it…especially the rain.
I’m so sad to not be at this race this year. I’m just not trained enough for it (or trained at all for that matter). This was my first and only 1/2 IM. I did it in 2003. Last year I moved to New York for the summer and couldn’t do it. This year, the training just hasn’t happened. (sob, sob) I’m hoping to be back next year. Good luck with it and enjoy!
Would love to join you in Peterborough. And it was on the schedule for a long time. Then my wife and I received a wedding invitation and that had to take priority (even though we would both rather be elsewhere).
I’ll likely do the Parry Sound 1/2 and get my butt kicked by tritoronto (like he did to me in Muskoka!).
Good luck to all this weekend.
Rob
p.s. I think Peter Phillips, who won last year, plans to be back at Peterborough as he preps for Hawaii. Should be quite a field!
i’ll be there for the 1/2, complete with 8 months pregnant wife in tow! so no camping for us this time (although she actually thought it would be okay. i told her she was nuts.)
sunny with a high of 86 is the forecast as of this minute (likely to change in the next). kind of on the warm side for my liking, but i suppose it could be much worse.
Let’s just hope that your wife does not decide to pop the baby out while you are 10K into the run at the other end of the run course.
Peterborough is a tough run and when you get those hot temps in the high 80’s it is a blast furnace with no wind. As RD Mitch Fraser put it, “I wanted to make the best simulation of Kona North that is possible in Ontario”
I’ll be there camping too Dev. Come by my site for some pre-race marshmallows …my secret run-fast food prepared by my daughters
I don’t know how much thrashing I’ll be doing but I have lost 8lbs since the Lakeside tri on June 11 so things are looking good for some August fitness.
Allan, I’ll swing by your spot in the camp ground for the Fauld-turbomarshmellows. Is the secret to sub 9;30 ?
I am trying to assemble an all star cast of 35-39 stud for Ottawa Half Ironman on Sep 4th. I am hoping that you will show up (and thereby eliminate any chance of me getting in the hardware). I think I got Marc Flageole and Stefan Kusurelis committed. We’re hoping that Pierre Lavoie (winner of Hawaii 40-44) also comes.
I’m in. Me and the Mrs. are loading up the truck with bikes and dogs and heading north. Departure - friggin’ early a.m. tomorrow (Fri.). Arrival - later that day. Should turn up in Peterborough sometime Sat. and hoping to make it to check-in that day. Be on the lookout for a blue Toyota Tacoma with bikes in the back and two of the friendliest Weimaraners you’ll ever meet inside. I’m willing to bet it’ll be the only one out there with Illinois plates…should stick out. This will be our first visit to Canada, so be nice! Hoping to not embarass myself in the M35-39 AG, but I’m looking forward to seeing the countryside - no better way to do it than on the bike. See y’all there - name’s Mike, and I’ll be riding a Litespeed Ultimate with 404’s and probably my Velo Club Roubaix race kit.
I’ll be there! I had planned on doing the half to improve on my time from last year but I’ve had a chest cold for the last month that I can’t get rid of so I’m not even sure if I’ll be racing. My girlfriend is doing the sprint so I might join in and see if I can do it without hacking up a lung.
I don’t know what any of you look like but I’ll keep my eye out for peacefull tribe shirts.
I’ll be camping as well. Last year I had the smallest tent there so we went out and bought a new one at costco. The damn thing is huge! I’ll be the guy with the huge tent and the silver VW jetta wagon. Feel free to drop in and say hello. I don’t post very often but I check in every day.
