Peter Reid's Aerobars

Does anyone know what kind of aerobar Peter Reid uses. It looks like he has to twist the end of his handle bars to brake. It looks pretty aerodynamic to me.

Peter Reid used the regular off-the-shelf Profile Design Carbon X aerobar. However, he does cut off the upturn on the handlebars and uses and out of production aero brake. You will not be able to find those anywhere. I remember a couple years ago Triathlete Magazine profiled his bike and they were even out of production at that time.

In seeing other pictures of PR, it looked like he only used those brakes for races. I can imagine them being pretty unsafe for regular road riding.

Yeah, I’ve seen them on Ebay from time to time. I believe the seller called them “speed reducers”

Oh there’s plenty out there… either NOS or used or on various classifieds and Ebay, but they don’t brake very well because I’ve tried them and didn’t really like them.

They are called the Profile Design Bullets. I’m gonna give 'em a whirl next season. Was hoping to use a pair in Clearwater, but couldn’t get them in time. They are not recommended for any course where you really need to brake hard.

I have a set on my bike. I like them. The trick is to get the lever pointing in a direction that you can pull up easily. When I brake, I pull them towards my chest. With my hands on the drops, it is the natural direction that my wrists hinge. I have no problem braking with them. I originally set them up this way, because it was the only direction I could install them and still use the internal cable routing. I trimmed the ends of the Carbon X’s just as PR did. Work good, but look wicked cool.

they are in stock at sbrshop.com. i don’t know if they are online, but they have em in the shop.
