Peter Reid racing Kona again

So I am listening to IronmanTalk and they tell me again that he is going to Kona this year.

Now they are always on the money with everything else they say (with the exception of me still waiting for my coffee card) so am I to believe this?

Does anyone know Peter Reid and can ask him?

Writerguy (on ST) should be able to confirm or deny this. There has been talk everywhere that he is coming back, but it would be great to hear it straight from him. I take it that he just did an Olympic tri last weekend in BC.

I’d love to see him race again. What a hottie!
Oh yeah, he was mighty fast too.

slowtwitcher rciomga (sp?) is coached by Reid, so maybe he can ask.

Yeah, he did a Oly up in Squamish and won it! Never heard anything yet about Kona…you think it’ll happen?

Here is the results from the race. The swim was 1.5, bike was 37 and the run was 10. Do you think he did this race at Hawaii race pace. Looks like it as the times are not fast for him.

1 1/158 M 1/33 M3539 1:56:39 215 Peter Reid 4 21:21 1 57:13 24.1 1 1:18:33 6 38:06 6:08 Brackendale,BC

Can’t be sure either way. He might get off the plane and sense some negative energy and decide not to do the race.

I have a friend (a pro) who was being coached by Reid but is not being coached now b/c Peter thinks it is a conflict of interest to coach someone he will be competing against in Kona…

Now THAT is some seriously funny shit!

No way to compare any of those times unless you know the course, conditions, profile, etc…The fact that he won speaks volumes to how he raced…Maybe no other good athletes, I don’t know, but winning is special in itself, and after that only he knows how his form is…

Yeah, ‘lame’ was the word that first came to my mind.

A conflict of interest? Who’s he coaching?

Normann? Macca? Marino VH? Cam Brown? Faris? DeBoom?

The list of contenders isn’t that long…and I can’t imagine Reid would be going there to race for a Top 20…

So where’s the conflict of interest?

Who’s going to tell him to drink more water now?! I’m worried

Have any pro triathletes ever come back out of retirement to win again?

Dave took 2nd at 40 years old, then 5th at 42, but no wins as I remember from retired pros…

Peter already “retired” in 2001.

Peter already “retired” in 2001.
That’s right, Peter Reid retired and came back to win it again.

Nina Kraft?

huh…nevermind

Yup.
You’re a coach, right?..

Monty,

I do know the course very well. I have done the race and watched the race for many years. While the old course was to me a lot more fun, the new course keeps everything closer to transition. The new bike is not as fast as the old bike course and the run course is a bit more difficult than the last one.

Peters swim was good, his bike as very fast for this course but his run could have been closer to 36 minutes on the day. I would think that he would be capable of that for sure. Who knows how his training is going if he is actually doing much. The second place guy ran just over 36 last year and then again this year. Peter spanked him on the bike and everyone else but overall I would think that Peter would be closer to 36 on the day.

Anyways, it is great to see him racing again this year and it is great to see him win a race as well. I am not knocking the guy at all. I would just think that he could have run a bit quicker.
