Perpetuem?

anyone use it? thoughts?

I don’t do well with any of the milky drinks. I thought perpetuem tasted really bad. When hot it is real bad. I have friends who do ok with it. It made me sick.
I have tried all of the drinks with protein and when I train in very hot weather they upset my stomach.

The taste takes some getting used to but it can work. You have to be sure you know the right strength for you. Test, test, test. I had it right for my first IM but wrong on my second. If you get it right it’s supper convenient, if you get it wrong it’s awful.
One suggestion they give is a supper concentrated bottle that you sip and use bottles of water to hydrate. I tried that but couldn’t stomache it, although if you can take it it’s probably the way to go.
Never wait to clean your bottles, it goes bad and smelly if left over night.

Used about half the can and then almost puked it all up on a REALLY hot day. I just couldn’t swallow it down at all in the heat.
Too milky/pasty.

man tough sell on the infinit crowd here.

If have to try it and see how it goes for you. I would also second the comment about using it as you would use it in a race (normal strength vs. concentrated).

For me, I used it and did alright on a couple of long bike rides, but by the 3rd or 4th ride I realized I wasn’t drinking enough in order to stay on top of my nutrition. I had become sick of the flavor, texture, and probably even the color…I never went back to it.

I was drinking it in a concentrated form (6-7 scoops/bike bottle) washing down with water. As a concentrated form (I was calling it pancake batter, I seen others on ST call it perpetu-paste)…the mouthfeel of the protein in it is really pronounced. Bleh, I’m feeling my tongue get “furry” just thinking about it!

That being said, some people love it! I would recommend trying it for a at least a half dozen long rides and if you can still handle it…then go for it. I like the hammer nutrition company even though I now us Infinit. I’m a HEED fan for shorter stuff.

thanks for the info. i am between longer races right now for a few months and am trying to figure out something that works well for me. infinit worked the one time i used it but right now i cannot afford it (and get a great deal on hammer) so i am giving this a shot. we’ll see how it goes.

For the past month or so I’ve been using it on long rides and runs and I love it. I often get that quezy feeling in the gut after to much gel and/or gatoraid. I haven’t had that problem at all with perpetuem. The orange vanilla flavor tastes good too.

So bad, I’d rather drink Ultima.

I used it for training up to IMCDA and for the race. I mixed regular strength and really liked it. The flavor does take a little to get used too, mixed to thick and it tastes awful! It gives a level set of energy that last and lasts. I recommend the product.

For IMCDA - I took one bottle (one big scoop) on the bike and I froze a second for special needs. At mile 65 I picked it up and it was still a little frozen and nice and cold. 1 bottle per loop with the Gade/Gels/Bananas/Bars was perfect!

i love the taste. it’s like one of those dreamsicle pops the ice cream man used to have in his truck.
not as good when it gets hot. but then again, what sports drink is?

I use it on my long rides (over 3 hours) and love it.

I’m currently testing nutrition, getting ready for IM Fla. Right now I’m taking in about 400 calories per hour, getting 250 from perpetuem and another 100 from a gel. I mix a “nurse” bottle using approx 2 scoops per hour.

I found a great nutrition estimator on the tri-talk website: http://www.tri-talk.com/TriTalkNC/TriTalkNC.htm

Like others have said…test, test, test…

I’ve used it and had good results from it. I used about 2 scoops per bottle. Never really ‘liked’ the taste but I tolerated it well. Just thought of it as fuel. I usually mix up my routine and flavors by switching Perpetuem and Cytomax (+ Gatorade Endurance occasionally since most courses carry this ) every now and then. Seems to keep me from getting sick and tired of the nutrition. Luckily, so far, I have a pretty strong stomach. But if you’re asking about results: yes, good results. If you’re asking about taste: not my favorite.

I tried it multiple times (since I bought the can) and each time seemed worse than the previous one. The day it made me physically sick (it was really hot out, but the bottles were cold) was the day I gave it up. I sent the rest of the can to a friend who loves it.

I finally switched to Infinit THANK GOD! Never had a single problem since, and I can even drink it warm after drinking nothing else for 5+hours.

I like a lot of the other Hammer stuff and use their gels, etc. But the Perpetuem was disastarous for me personally.

That’s my game plan for IMLou- one bottle on bike with 2-3 scoops and a second frozen one in special needs bag. plus powerbars, water and gatorjuice. this has worked well in training

I use it for 1/2 IM and IM distance races, and I have never had a problem with it. Generally I mix 5 to 6 scoops per bottle. I bottle for a 1/2 and 2 bottles for an IM. I have found that if you mix it the night before and refrigerate, it tends to mix-up better.

I use it for all IM distance races and it works well for me. I add Hammergel for flavoring in addition to the added calories and that works well for me … hammergel obviously has many flavors for those that need that.

Love you people.

The issues I hear from Hammer users that come to expos is the taste. Not good esp warm.

The biggest issues I have is that they use only one type of carbohydrate and that is not the most efficient way to absorb calories. By mixing them you can actually absorb 25-30 % more per hour. A big number on along event. Second is that I am not a big fan of soy, it tends to get sour/skunky quickly in the heat. Last, you have to take other stuff (salt pills/gels) to make their system work. Bit of a juggling act on race day.

I know that it works for some people, they are very happy with the product and it works well for them.

I know I and everyone else sound like a walking commerical about Infinit...but I think it still tastes good even when warm. I think it has something to do with flavor (lemon-lime, etc.)...I think the fruity flavors taste better in the heat.

that was my problem with perpetuem…it does not do well in the heat…even the hammer people concede this point. I think it’s the flavor mixed with mouthfeel.

Its too bad…I really want to give my $ to the hammer people…they are a small company, seem really nice, open, and stoked about their products. It just doesn’t work for me.

Its kinda funny, because the hammer people will tell you that mixing carbohydrates (simple and complex) is BAD and you will have digestive problems and you (the infinit people) say that mixing simple and complex is GOOD. I've always wanted to look into the research you guys cite (same studies, different studies) and if see how hammer vs. Infinit interpret the data that is out there. I don't know who is right/wrong and don't want to start a shit-storm. Just an interesting observation....

That being said, I’ve never had problems mixing the complex with simple carbs…so I’m in the infinit camp on this one based on personal experience…maybe some people do have problems with that…
