Peroneus Longus Tendon

Steve - What you describe I find very familiar sounding. Since July of last year I’ve been dealing with a peroneus longus tendon injury on my right foot. I rested it, iced it, took the anit-inflammatory medications, basically have been limping around since that time. The injury was caused by a long hiking trip and just doesn’t seem to want to heal. I’ve seen two doctors now, the first placed me in a brace that allowed normal walking but didn’t take care of the problem. Went back 6 weeks later and got to wear a walker boot for 5 weeks, then back to the lace up brace. Now it’s March of the following year and I’m still not able to do what I want to. If I walk without the lace up brace very far it is very easy to get the sharp pain to occur.

2 months ago an MRI was done and showed fluid around the tendons but did not show a tear. I’ve been doing PT for 6 weeks but don’t feel like it’s taking care of the problem. If I walk on uneven surfaces where the outside of my right foot is higher then the inside I get a very sharp pain like a knife in the side of my foot. The pain is about in the middle of the foot, forward of the bottom of the fibula, not directly under it. It is sore to the touch under the brevis if I over-use/exercise it. Wondering if this is a similar problem you dealt with before deciding to have surgery?
