And why do you assume we think it sucks for you to list people you admire?
I meant it sucks that I made a list of rules.
I admire Casey for giving up the relatively easy, soft life here in the US to go help others less fortunate than all of us.
I admire every single New York firefighter or other emergency responders who selflessly rushed up the steps of the WTC while thousands of people were rushing down on 9-11.
I admire every single service member who engaged in direct ground combat in any war.
My parents who knew that the key to success in life was education, and who scrimped and saved to put me and my sister through college. Much of what I am today I owe to them.
My wife, who has stood by me through thick and thin, and who is an excellent mother to our two children.
There’s more, I’m sure, but that’ll do for now.

I agree with your whole list and would look very similar to mine (excepting of course that I would admire my wife instead of yours, although I’m sure your wife is a perfectly wonderful lady). One thing I would add to the above is the spouses (or parents) of those service members who are deployed overseas. I can only wish I had that sort of bravery, endurance, and determination.

Wayne Gretzky
Pat Summitt
Lance Armstrong - his cancer victory alone is inspiring
My cousin ( who is fighting cancer right now).
Art, Vitus, and Big Kahuma for their brave stance against the lefties on this board
Irishsailsman for his apparent obsession with anal sex.
Well, ass is the other vagina.
Walter Payton
Ernie Banks
Michael Jordan
Class act superstars on Chicago teams.
I also admire that airline pilot who landed in the Hudson and saved everyone. Nice job!
Me
Just about everybody else to one extent or another
I rolled my eyes at your first line but smiled at the second.
That’s actually a really good answer.

Thank you but my wife and I are blessed to be in the situation to do that and I know not everyone is. We have no kids and were careful with our finances (easier if you have no kids). I know there are many who would do the same under the same circumstances. We were also blessed to be born in a country where we have these opportunities.
Of course, your opinion may change if you read my responses in the “Only 16 days to go until certain doom” thread and realize the mess I have created for myself, starting tomorrow…![]()
I am lucky to have a lot of people I admire:
The late Micheal R. Rabe. He had a strong sense of fair play, a vigorous love of cycling and a tireless work ethic. The late Doug Stern. He had infectious enthusiasm and optimism- he was a connector. My friend Mike Aderhold. He understands temperance and restraint. He is reserved and cordial. He is a gentle, soft spoken man and I love that about him. Slowman. No, it is not a kiss ass answer. I admire his ability to become an expert on a topic. He is always the thinker, the student, the beginner. He is responsible for many new schools of thought in our sport. He does his own thing. I have enormous respect and admiration for that. I have never seen him rest on his laurels. My friend Mario. He is a gentle man. Dave Koesel of Felt. Self-made man. Family man. Excellent athlete. Impressive. Sgt. Surmacz. The consummate soldier. A Patriot in the original sense. Had he been born in the 1700’s he would have crossed the Delaware with Washington. Sgt. Carter. Teacher, leader. Hero.
if you don’t admire yourself - it’s pretty hard to get anything going - much less admiration for another
(sound bite alert) Admiration begins at home.

Lance Armstrong- I think he is a douche but something about him is admirable
