I have signed up for IMC '06 and am trying to set-up lodging. I will be bringing my wife and 3 kids. Ideally looking for a place that has a kitchenette and separate bedrooms so that the night before the race I don’t commit a homicide if my kids/wife are up running around. Staying on Lakeshore Dr. is not a priority. Suggestions?
You’re already late on this. I just left Penticton, and most of the hotels in the area had filled up or had waiting lists already. I’d see who’s got room first, and then try and pick the best of the bunch.
For what it’s worth, I stayed at the Bowmont Motel. A great place, owned by people who get what IMC is all about. Kitchens with microwaves and ovens - but I think it’s full.
If you find one available, PM me and I’ll tell you what I think of it if I know of it. I saw quite a few places while I was there, so I’ve got an OK feel for the lay of the land.
Don’t give up yet. Although places may be full now places always turn up. Just figure out where you want to stay and be persistent with calling every month or so. Cancellations happen every where every year. Being on lake shore is really great for kids though 'cause they are just across the street from the beach. Having said that though the Skaha lake side of town is another great beach too which includes a water park/playground.
There are a ton of houses that you can rent on the run course. I’ll check through my stuff and see if I brought a rental guide home from my vacation there. I’ll let you know if I can find one.
It’s a bit of a challenge
Yes, everything is “booked” up already for next year, but if you do a bit of work you will be able to find something.

Post here and on other tri-message boards/forums regularly. Many people advertise homestays and B & B options that way.

Some hotels don’t open up for resevrations until next spring. Find this out and then be first in line.

Work with Okanagan Reservations and only book into a place that is registered with them. We made the mistake this year of doing this and ran into a bad situation, and I hate to do this, but got a bit of a rough ride st the Stardust Motor Inn, only to find oyt afterwards that he is not part of the association. Bottom line, don’t book at the Stardust or any place that is not part of the Association.

Check for place a bot out of town. Apex Ski Resort is a great place. Popular with a number of the pros, but it’s at least 30 minute drive to the race site.

I am told that one month out ie third week of July all the Association hotels/motels rooms that have not been offcially book through Okanagan Reservations are dumped back to the individual hotels and this is when rooms become available.
Best regards,
