I had to go through an emergency root canal procedure today. I had an insane toothache for the past 2 days and I got an appointment today at the dentist. After they took an x-ray they saw that I had a bad infection around a dead vein. So they drilled a few holes and cleaned out the infection. They aren’t actually removing the vein for another 3 weeks. I have to take penicillin 3 times a day for the next 11 days. The pharmacist says that it won’t have any effect on my race (IM Louisville). But he did say to eat yogurt everyday I take the pills…so i don’t get a case of the shits.
Has anyone else had to take penicillin before a race? Any thoughts? Concerns? Recommendations?
I was on penicillin on race week for an IM and had no problems. It was for the same issue, I had an infected and absessed root canal. You should be fine, just stay hydrated on race week. Good luck.
