Pedro Delgado's Take On Doping

http://www.velonews.com/race/int/articles/11235.0.html

He’s all but endorsing doping, so long as it’s under medical supervision and within reason/safety. I’ve never been in his shoes, so I’m not going to judge the guy. He does make some valid points; that doping in sport and society is not going away, and cyclists, unlike other major sports, have given over so much power that it’s gotten to a point where mere suspicion is grounds for removal. If it worked like that in the NFL/MLB/NHL/NBA, those leagues would cease to exist. It’s quite uncommon to hear such politically uncorrect statements.

Note to Delgado, don’t expect dinner invitations from Dick Pound anytime soon.

His attitude shows the reason why former riders and directeur sportifs need to be pushed to the side and have new leadership take their place.

At least he isn’t being hypocritical
.

Exactly!

Firstly I will say I am not a fan of doping to atificially improve performance. I thought that was a very good article and had some very valid points. Who would want to be a pro rider at the moment? Currently you are a doping cheat just by association, and guilty until proven innocent. No other sports would tolerate being treated the way cyclists are, and I am sure there are other sports with bigger doping cultures than cycling. I just agree with his sentiment that no one is taking cotrol and saying this is accaptable and this is not…

THAT I am not so sure of…

, and I am sure there are other sports with bigger doping cultures than cycling.

Legalize doping and make them all battle it out. I assume they all are anyway, and it does not deter my enjoyment one little bit.

THAT I am not so sure of…

I am. Most pro sports have traditionally turned a blind eye to the whole issue of PED’s. It is only when their athletes were caught by police for illicit substances (e.g. cocaine) that any attention was paid to drugs in the sport at all.
